so ive been trying to get my friend to go to biolife, its a place where they draw plasma (white blood cells) from your blood and pay you $$ for it.....i make $50 a week, $260 a month for stopping at this place for 2 hours a week...you lay on a comfy chair and they just suck stuff out of  you, take what they need, then push it back into your arm...

does anyone else do this? they're apperently all over the country but every time i tell someone its how i pay my rent they all say "what is biolife? you sell blood?"

btw my friend has a VERY big appetite for pot, thats why im trying to get him to go...its a free sack every week!

I tried.  Now I'm on a national blocklist!  It's illegal for me to give blood in any form cause I lived in England when that mad cow shit was going on.  Kinda blows, I could use an extra $60/week.

i don't have any centers around here, but i just sent them an e-mail asking why there were none in my state.  i know plenty of people who would love to donate.

I did that for years and then I got a false positive for syphilis was blocked.  They apparently use kind of a shitty first test that's more prone to false positives and if it comes back positive they run it through a secondary test but then still block the donor.  My name ended up on a state list and some guy from Madison drove up to draw blood in my parents kitchen since I told them I wasn't gonna shell out money to go to the doctor.  It kind of sucks that even though I'm certified clean I still can't go back.

I used to do that. Biolife hires a bunch of fuckin' tard rednecks, though, who fucked up my veins one too many times.

The worst, was when they missed the vein, but didn't realize it.
Blood was taken out just fine, but when they went to pump it back in, MY FUCKING SKIN STARTED BUBBLING UP WITH BLOOD. I ripped that needle out so fucking quick and blood sprayed EVERYWHERE.

Needless to say they gave me an extra $10 to dry clean my clothes.

It ALWAYS takes longer than an hour, no matter what they tell you. They take their damn sweet time. Honestly, sitting there for an hour and a half with a big needle in my arm is not worth $25/30 to me. That shit feels so disgusting when they pump the blood back into you.

Edit: Do they have to put the other stuff back in? Fuck it, they can keep it for all I care. That sounds too scary for me. I don't like needles, but for that kind of money I could get over it.

What they do, is take a few pints of blood, spin out the plasma, then pump the plasma-less blood back into you. This cycle repeats several times until they fill about a liter-size bag with plasma. Once it is full, they pump a saline solution into you that gives you a metallic taste in your mouth.

The needle is in your arm the entire time.

If needles freak you out, this would be hell for you. If needles aren't a problem for you, then by all means, get that $60 a week.

i made a living doing this and playing gigs for a while. i was the most worthless drunk that summer, and never got up before 2pm unless i had a plasma appointment. they say its bad to drink after a donation, but you get wasted real easily.
i'd say its worth it to do every once and a while, but after a few months of doing it consistently i definitely felt different, my body started feeling hollow. i know long term it can permanently affect blood protein levels, but that takes quite a while.
the process itself is not bad, but we have a good center and lot of the phlebotomists also worked as EMTs or nurses, so they were really good with the needles. didn't even feel it most of the time.
basically its getting paid over $200 a month to sit and read or listen to an i-pod.
