My guess is that they interviewed the people on camera first, and told a few jokes or whatever to get a natural laugh or smile.  Then, towards the end of said interview they would say, "OK, now on the count of three, smile."

Just a guess though.

exactly what i thought. i voted false on them all because at the end of each video you clearly see their expressions change into a non-smile. its an invalid scientific test as far as im concerned and more of a personal opinion test. and why all the meth addicts?

Also, I missed 3 out of the first four before I got used to spotting all the right marks on the first video play (eyes were the best tell).

to be honest, it confused me because i didn't know the context.

What did they mean by genuine vs fake?
There are two ways to understand that:
Forcing a smile vs it letting it spontaneously come in a moment and
Feeling happy feelings & expressing them vs having a mental reaction to what someone said

Generally I went with the latter, but I suspect they meant the former.

As an example of why paying attention to the former wouldn't always work - a good actor doesn't fake. They can guide their emotions in any direction. The latter would always work, but it's much harder to see in someone.
