Well, I will throw you 1/2 a bone here.  I do think it is interesting what is happening to people.  I don't think it is mysterious at all.  There are many accounts of mass hysteria, many types of imagined diseases that have propped up over the ages.  Damn it I don't want to say it but alien abductee's have similar experiences too.  This is gonna backfire I know it.  They aren't really being abducted.  They are not contagious in the classic sense of the word, however yes, monkey see monkey do.

I just think its very interesting that medical professionals aren't even looking at them.  Okay if you think its a mental illness, at least look at their physical symptoms of the sores, fibers ect ect.

I see that doctors aren't looking at them, I'm curious as to what psychiatrists are saying about this.

I understand that people believe they read the internet and believe they have the disease, but how come this has never happened before?  Why is this happening now?  And if it has happened before someone hit me up with a link....

Real medical practitioners don't find unusual fibers, only the people who believer that Morgellons has a cause beyond the brain find those fibers.  Its like the rock implants abductee find... they find them because they are looking at them, and people who believe them say OMG this is so high tech, and yet... there is simply no evidence of the technology to the unbelievers.  They see one thing we see another.

Doctor DO see these people.  I quoted a doctor that said he treated 50 people successfully, but he said he did so by lying to them so they thought he believed they were actually infected with something.  Then he treats them the best way he can.  The problem is many of these folks are suspicious of Western medicine and so cannot be effectively treated for the real cause, and thus they come up with many different variations of the cause and the cure.

Conversion Sympton: Traces back to 16th century BC
Bandwagon effect: People being people
Folie à deux: "Madness shared by two" OMG ITS CONTAGIOUS... like in my brain

Honestly, I don't know why any of us bother, this seems to be more for me than you.  The argument has been made, points have been shown, and yet you still say, why are doctors not seeing them, why is this a new phenomenon...  Do you read my posts and forget them, or do you just skip over them so your bubble doesn't burst?

Not to argue in favor of Morgellon's, but it's always wise to bear this in mind:

Re: Morgellons.....I believe them! [Re: deCypher]

No, that is fair deCypher, but keep in mind the Western doctors do not diagnose people with Morgellons... people do that to themselves.  Morgellons not recognized as a unique disorder by the medical community, so you would not have a psychiatrist or a doctor give that diagnosis unless they were trying to earn patient trust.

On the other hand:
Quote:
Some cases of delusional parasitosis have organic causes other than those associated with neurological/psychological conditions of unknown etiology. For example, formication, the sensation that bugs are crawling under ones' skin, can be caused by allergies, diabetic neuropathy, menopause, skin cancer, or herpes zoster. Both dementia and mental retardation have been reported in association with DOP.[46] Symptoms associated with delusional parasitosis, including urticaria (hives), paresthesia (unexplained tingling sensations in the skin), and pruritis (itching), are common side-effects of many prescription drugs or drug abuse.[47] The sensations are real, but the attribution of the sensations to unknown parasites and the collection of fibers is part of the delusion.

So there might be another cause that we would want to treat to help the patient.  However if the patient feels they have Morgellons, that means they are delusional.  This fact might make it difficult for medical practitioners to accurately find the route cause, since the patient has put him or herself at odds with the doctors opinions, and has possibly restricted the options available to the doctor.

I was talking about fireduck specifically.

After reading all of this information my conclusion is IDK.  idk what these people are experiencing cuz i have never talked to anyone or seen anyone claiming they have this "morgellons."

I can't tell if it is a mental illness, or a physical illness.  Or some sort of ridiculous gov't conspiracy.  I think to say it IS a mental illness is an assumption rather than a fact.  I simply do not know.  Especially in this day in age where technology is much more advanced than ever before.  Who knows what some people can do with it?

The reason people self diagnose is because there is no such thing as morgellons in the academic medical literature, so they can't diagnose something that doesn't exist yet.

What, the gov't is paying all doctors to lie about the disease whenever they see people who have it? Or are all doctors simply reptilians in disguise and they're in on the scheme?

Just because something isn't named in the medical literature doesn't mean doctors can't see it. If it were real, then there would be reports of "atypical fibroid dermatitis" or something like that, and doctors would be looking at it and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals. But like fireduck said, doctors aren't seeing these fibers, only people who believe in them are.

On the contrary, when aids started becoming big doctors were baffled.  They had no idea what it was that was causing the symptoms (and could not diagnose it), and even if the doctors aren't seeing the fibers, you cannot dismiss their existence all together.

One could hypothesize a conspiracy theory whereby government technology is so advanced that the nanobots (or whatever the Morgellon fibers are) are impossible for us to normally see them, either because we're typically being infused with mind-altering chemicals in the water supply, or through sophisticated neural technology that simply never lets our awareness of the fibers into our consciousness (the fnords of the Illuminatus! Trilogy).

What if Morgellon's sufferers are really seeing the truth?

Sorry, but that analogy fails. Although they had difficulty diagnosing it, they recognized that something was going on. Doctors collaborated and discussed the symptomology they were seeing. This collaboration led to the discovery of what AIDs was and what caused it.

If this were going on now, we'd see doctors discussing the symptomology and trying to figure out what's going on.

And yes, I absolutely dismiss the existence of the fibers. Until a SINGLE credible source reports them, it sounds like poppycock to me.
