Hunting forum-new sub forum for ID requests
    #9250756 -

Being a "trusted identifier" in the hunting forum i think it would make it easier if there was a subforum strictly for ID requests

keep all the ID'd mushrooms and edible/active finds in the regular hunting forum and the ID requests in there own, this will also help un-clutter the regular forum

i support this idea. It can be frustrating when you make a post to share your days hunt and your post gets shoved off the page by a barrage of id requests.

yup, i suggested this the other day in another thread...

but n00bs can't even manage to read the forum rules or how to post a proper ID request, so a sub forum would likely be over looked by most...

anyway i support the idea too, simply for the reasons that waixingwren stated above.

I support the idea too for a variety of reasons.  However, some of it boils down to the amount of work the mods can handle.  As it stands now, most of the ID's do not come from the subcategory of id request.  Yet, most of us ID them anyway, even the mods.  Sometimes it's like a sport to guess the ID with the fewest clues given.

Uarewotueat brought up the fact that n00bs won't use the category.  True.  That's what we have mods for, i.e. they can move the threads.  Which brings us back to the amount of work the mods can handle or are willing to handle.  If we were to be scientific about it, each forum could be analyzed for the amount of threads/posts any one mod can handle comfortably.  Then divide the workload accordingly.  But then we're into Shroomery politics and the whole gamut of what constitutes a well-run message board.

Not to malign anyone in particular, but we are running on about 1.75 mods when there are three assigned.  This isn't the only forum to labor under lack of mods.

So while I think your suggestion is a valid one I don't see it having a snowball's chance in hell of getting off the ground.  Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly support it.

I'd like to add that for me the number of new actives discovered by Shroomerites is without a doubt the most exciting thing the Shroomery has to offer, not just to the OMC, but entire field of mycology as a whole.

im sure the NooBs wont use the subforum just a thought, it would be nice to discuss normal finds/taxonomy/hunting stuff in the normal hunting forum without getting bombarded with ID requests

I fully support this idea too, it'd be a great way of making things more organized. We could add to the rules that ID requests go in the ID request subforum, but no one reads the rules anyway. Perhaps we could have a little notice made for every new post in the hunting that tells them that if it's an ID request to select the ID request subforum. I bet Ythan can figure something out.

And if all else fails, mods can just move the posts to the ID subforum. It's easy to move a post.

Let me see what the mods of that forum think and if there are no objections I'll get it set up.

If there are objections, it would be nice to see the mods post them in this thread publicly.  Not for argument sake, but to get a better feel for what is acceptable and what is not.

Thanks

Good idea - the board is really cluttered lately.

I don't think additional moderators are necessary, though.

Back in the day we used to have mods that would address suggestions publicly.

Just sayin'

Wassup I'm a new member on this forum but have come here for all my mushroom question, answers, and information for yoears. I've recently found my passion in hunting for and discovering different psilocybe species in the wild and cultivating them indoors. ZSo on my daily hunt this morning in the pasture where I usually hunt for cubensis I found a mushroom that I can't quite identify. The Shroom is definitely a Psilocybe but it doesn't really resemble the usual cubensis it looks more like an Azurescense or Cyanacense. Please help!?    Species #

Habitat:Field or pasture along side some Cubensis patches.

Gills:Greyish to dark brown purple spore print.

Stem:Off white thick bruising dark dark blue.

Cap: Caramel cinnamon fading to a goldish yellow. Hygrophanus and umbate.

Bruising:Blueish green. url=https://files.shroomery.org/files/19-43/223028095-IMG_20191027_195253.jpg][image]http://www.shroomery.org/forums/thumbs/19-43/223028095-thumb_IM

General location: Northwest Arkansas in the mid fall.

Well there you go for a perfect example of people finding every way to post their ID request in the wrong spots.

Waaaasuuuuuup! (ain't had that run thru my brain for a long time :laugh2:

try your ID request in the Hunting and ID request forum, 11 year old threads and incorrect forum for topics are largely ignored if not corrected and moved or closed for comment.

see this post: [STICKY] Identification Requests (IF YOU HAVE ONE READ THIS FIRST)

follow that instruction and post where it points to, then wait for a Trusted Identifier (TI tag) to respond back with their ID based on your infos given. Good luck!
