Found in lawn in Kentucky- (Pics) Need ID

Ok, I may be a mod on this site... but when it comes to hunting I can really use a little help.  :grin: I found these in a yard in Kentucky today while cutting weeds. They dont stain blue. I did find a larger one in the same area last week and it did produce totaly jet black spores. I am taking spore prints of these right now.





I asume there not posinious based on what I have read. But could they be active?

I will try to post better pics later.

Any opinions?

You've got some Psathyrella velutinas... not active, not poisonous. I'm not sure about ediblity.

Hmm Im not sure now that this is what I found... here is a pic of the species you mentioned:



I found this info out:

Psathyrella velutina Weeping Widow

Caps are 3-8 cm across, dry, hemispherical to flat, tan to ochre, and covered with dark brown hairs. Gills are attached to free, crowded, white to purple-black, mottled, and often with droplets at edge of gills. Stalks are up to 12 cm tall by 1 cm wide, and fibrous to scaly. Spore prints are purple-brown to blackish. Widespread and common, this mushroom fruits in grass or in open woods. Edible but not recommended.

I found this information here.

The mushrooms that I found are NOT "covered with dark brown hairs"...

Basicly the description dosent exactly fit... not to mention that there is a yellowish tint where the stems were cut in this pic... mine dont have any yellow color to them.

The ones I found do have a hollow stem however.

BTW: The spore prints from these are very dark black in color.

they dont always have visable hairs, just like gymnopius spectabilus doesnt always have visable scales

Ok, I stand corrected... Today I found another 'shroom in the same area- They DO have little hairs on them.. it's only obvious when there alive and fresh however.

I was going to post better pics, but it looks like you guys have properly id- them for me. :grin:

If your lucky you can find Pans... Cyrans are rumored to be in Kentucky, but I'm started to wonder if we dont simply have a non active look-a-like here. Best to look in the cow pies on farms for anything magical... There a very rare find in Kentucky, and personaly I havent seen them in Ohio.

I would LOVE to find some fresh Pan Cy around here. Pity they seem so rare or perhaps not at all.

Maybe we should become the mid-west Johnny Cyan-Seeds and run around the countryside with seed spreaders throwing colonized grain :cool:
