Lawn Discovery, Need ID
    #898890 - 09/22/02 07:56 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

I woke up this morning to my wake-up cigarette by walking around my lawn. I soon discovered a bunch of these very promising mushrooms. They were found in connecticut on my lawn. They have brownish purple(more like chocolate -brown actually), I will make a sporeprint soon to be exact. In the young stage of these mushrooms they are conical and have a browish yellow color to them. As they age the become less conical and bigger wide caps (some 2 -3 inches wide) At the bases of the stem , they bruise brown. The rest of the stem is white mixed with parts of brown as u go down(from the cap down). One of them that had developed more than the others has become not conical at all but wavy caps. My digital camera isnt the best but i did my best to show what i can to help identify it.
picture of them growing young   heres some other pics

I made sure to put a good descriptions this time , trying to become more professional

The all too common Psathrella velutina, aka the velvety psathrella. Good for nothing except to tell me that weilii is up and fruiting  Weilii and Psathrella velutina go hand and hand, when one is up so is the other, almost always.

Nope, sorry but no Ps. weilii in connecticut, too far north. Your best bets are Panaeolus subbalteatus, Psilocybe caerulipes, and Psilocybe silvatica.
