I don't doubt that, I just found it strange in light of the conversation about Palin, since her foreign policy experience wouldn't affect your decision to not vote for her.

well, first off, a VP is selected as a running mate, dont
really get to vote for the VP otherwise I'm sure the results
would be McKinney/Biden after it's all said and done

second, what's the point is the smears, the media wanted
obama, they'd do anything to get him into office, it's what
they were paid to do, it's their job to smear McCain and
Palin, Palin being the easier target because she's a girl but
to be honest, she's shown more guts than Obama through the
campaign

last, why would her foreign policy experience affect my vote,
I'm simply stating a fact, not tring to sway someones
opinion, I'm the first person to tell everyone, vote for the
candidate you feel is best suited. McCain... not it.
Obama... even worse, but these suckers have bought obamas
$20/week tax break for the $250k/yr earners as if it's
actually going to do something, maybe if the people in ohio
could count past 10 without removing their shoes, they's see
what I'm talking about and vote against the major parties

Come on, that's not what made her an easy target. It's things like those disastrous interviews with Katie Couric, and the fact that SNL could satirise her by quoting her verbatim - those things made her an easy target.

Did you guys see that bitch mentioning how "dumb" it was to give millions of dollars to research just "fruit flies?"  Does this fucking rodent of a human being even realize that Drosophila has pretty much been our genetic lab rat?  I can't even begin to name off the things we've discovered about heredity from them and she thinks it's a waste of money. 

Pathetic excuse for a human being.  The day someone with that level of religious fanaticism gets anywhere near office is the day I apply for citizenship elsewhere... I'd rather be a member of a society that is advancing, not moving backwards.

I thought it was in bad taste, but shit... you think she might have caught on when he claimed to be able to see Belgium from his house, or maybe when he was talking about the Prime Minister of Quebec, or maybe when he praised her on the 'edgy' documentary "Nalin Palin".

And when they told her it was a radio station in Montreal - she definitely heard, because she repeated it - and then, at 5:48 you can hear her talking about a "radio station in France..."

Possibly.

But, the problem isn't that she was taken in briefly by a prank caller - plenty of people have been.

What the call highlights is her lack of suitability for the job - she didn't question him when he misnamed the PM of Canada, or when he referred to the PM of Quebec. Apparently, she didn't know right away that Montreal is in Canada, not France. She didn't interrupt him or become obviously suspicious when the caller claimed that his wife was "good in bed" or complimented her on the "Nailin Pailin" documentary.

Overall, WTF?

Biden gives interviews, and sometimes handles hostile questioning well:

He has shown that he has a basic, working understanding of the issues, not just some memorized talking points that he can parrot back.

Palin is very charismatic in her prepared speeches, and under conditions where she can control the flow of conversation - in the VP debate, there were no follow up questions, and the candidates felt free to talk about what they wanted to rather than the questions, when necessary. However, she did very badly in an interview with follow up questions, and has refused further interviews.

This last point is key. With Biden, Obama, and McCain, we've seen them say some stupid things but that can be balanced against the fact that we've seen them show some basic understanding of the world as well. With Palin, all we've seen is that one bad interview, and now some prank call - when called to think on her feet or show any real knowledge of anything, she's fallen pretty far short, at every single opportunity.

This is the key distinction - all we see is the stupid, rather than a normal balance between stupid and smart.

I think every politician makes a gaffe or two from time to time. If you had every word of yours scrutinized I bet you'd say something you regret or stutter once in a while. What matters is how often it happens, and if the gaffe is based on ignorance or misspeaking, and how they play it off.

She was smart enough to realize the fruit flies in question aren't Drosophila fruit flies at all. The ones in question are the Mediterranean fruit flies - a completely different genus and species - which are not used in genetic research and have never been used in genetic research and will never be used in genetic research.

She's also smart enough to realize the only reason the earmark was made was in an attempt to court campaign contributions from California olive growers. Olive growing in North America is a boutique industry dominated by a very small number of comparatively well-off Californians in agribusiness who want government to fund solutions to the pests which are beginning to be problematical to them - the Mediterranean fruit fly.

This makes her substantially smarter than people posting on an internet message board who are credulous enough to take the talking points of rabid Leftwingers as fact.

He personally doesn't slaughter infants, no. He is, however, one of the very few legislators who has actually voted - repeatedly - in favor of the most radical abortion legislation ever proposed.
