Fuck vista. I always tell a program to do something, then go downstairs to make lunch or something, and when i'm done I go back upstairs expecting to see the program finished but instead I see a screen saying "this program needs your permission to continue". I gave it permission when i told it to start! Waste of time wtf

I'm still of the opinion if you have to do actual work on a computer (spreadsheets, powerpoint, word processing etc.) a PC is superior to a mac.

If you need to make stationary, organize mp3's, photos and other non-productve activities, then a mac may be for you.

My prediction is that "if" Microsoft gets it right (and thats a huge "IF") and has a successful release of Windows 7, Windows Mobile 7, and Live Mesh (which is already in beta) they will absolutely blow by Apple in every aspect.

Imagine having access to all your applications, files and computing resources wherever you are.  It'll be a huge step in computing.

If you have enough ram and take the time to tweak vista 64, it's actually a pretty good operating system. I am kind of annoyed that microsoft made DX10 exclusive for it though. That's some huge BS.

You can already have full access to your files...If you run a desktop at home with a laptop while you are away it's pretty simple. VPN. I don't agree with having access to your files wherever you are. Well, I do, but I think it will be exploited very easily. VPN is very secure if done properly, and I just don't see that same technology being used...Maybe it will.

that "permission" screen can easily be shut off in the USER CONTROL options on the control panel.  I admit that shit is annoying and it is the first thing I disable.  I run VISTA on my custom built.  Its a AMD Quad-core with 4 GB of RAM.  ASUS motherboard and almost 1000 GB worth of hard drive space.  Vista is an absolute pleasure to work with in my opinion - I do everything from recording music to games to photoshop to office stuff.

the BEST thing about VISTA is the media center available on the higher couple of versions (all but BUSINESS versoin I beleive).  This software in combination with a ATI TV CAPTURE CARD allows TV to be recorded to the hard drive.  This in combination with a VISTA remote allows a lot of MULTIMEDIA options with VISTA.  I have all my music, recorded TV, downloaded TV and movies, home videos and pictures....etc all at the touch of the remote with Windows VISTA. 

In my opinion VISTA is the best thing Microsoft has available - if you use it correctly!  all that annoying shit must simply be tweaked - you can actually get vista to run like XP.  But until Vista, there was no MEDIA CENTER that was smooth and bug free like this one.

This is true...Vista is highly customizable, but the average end user doesn't know how to disable things.

Vista IMO is just too complicating for most people...Even myself. I manage Windows Server's all the way up to Server 2008, and I still struggle with it sometimes.

This is just a random fact:

Microsoft has never been completely re-written. Every line of code has just been added since their very first OS, unlike Linux. I think they should completely re-write one, and maybe that is what they are working on behind the scenes...I'm not sure.

it just takes some looking around at the control panel, or a google search to find how to disable some of the crap... but I agree most end users just want it ready to go... I forget I am a computer geek sometimes.

this is funny too.  fails while trying to demonstrate - but I think it is the remote, not the software...lol

I think anyone who gets into MEDIA CENTER and sees what it can do in combination with a remote control... will understand them shits is awesome.  even without a TV capture card - but your music, home videos and pictures on there and enjoy slideshows and music.  all your multimedia can be organized with this media center.

yeah, but why fix what isn't broken.  I know little about the code.. but I do know windows is just a user friendly interface that still runs on DOS.  DOS is the underlying code in all of microsoft...  I don't see them switching to something that isn't DOS anytime in the near future, or ever.  It is something that has to just be built on to, not redun.

again, I am a geek, but don't code or anything - these are just my presumptions.

I think the argument being that every time they release a new OS they make it out to be the greatest, most innovating, fresh shit in the universe. While in reality its typically a fatter, more resource-hugging version of the previous one.

That said, Vista isnt a bad OS. Ive ran it for a while, but in the end couldn't justify sticking with it due to some annoying factors and a virtual lack of benefits. I had a triple boot going with Vista, XP, and Linux, and started to boot into vista only for gaming. Then i realized that even DX10 doesn't offer a significant enough difference to stick to it. Plus XP could run older games which vista would refuse to do.

yeah, there was one game i couldn't run on vista... but i'm not much of a gamer so i didn't bother with a multi boot.  but that is a good point you have.  If you like multimeda and all that then media center is the shit, but vista does have its obvious drawbacks.  It would suck with limited resources... but both my computers are powerhouses.

I have my "entertainment" PC running vista and the monitor is my TV.  with a remote I can access all my MUSIC, recorded TV, downloaded tv and movies, home movies and pictures... and more...  it really is a bad ass entertainment system all on my hard drive and synced with media center.

Those MOJAVE commericials are retared though.  "I guess you really do have to try it to see" - quote from commerical - what a bunch of dipshits.  DUH you have to try it.  I didn't know if I liked it until I TRIED it.  ARG those commercials just piss me off - make microsoft users seem like dumb fucks.
