You and me both. As much as I hate to rip off Charlton Heston here. The govt can pry my guns from my cold dead hands. I am not going to just hand them over without a fight, only to be robbed by the crackheads in the apartments down the street.
I don't "cling to my religion" in the traditional sense, but I will cling to my guns.
That's the attitude that keeps some asshole from trying anything serious.

Yeah, I'd like to vote 3rd party, but Obama makes me real nervous about the future of this country.
I'd rather help McCain win and vote another politician in office than vote for a 3rd party and see Obama win.

I feel like you guys took my comments the wrong way. I brought up valid points which were basically ignored. On voting third party, I am strongly opposed to a 2 party system, but at the same time, strongly opposed to the idea of the McCain/Palin ticket winning this election. If I was given a choice on who I want for president, no way in hell would I pick Obama. But to be real, this election is between McCain and Obama. Voting third party may make a statement, but it won't enact any change or make any difference whatsoever towards the outcome of the elction. For me, Obama is better than McCain, by default. Obviously Obama has a lot of shitty policies, but they are a lot less important than the big issues which would be worsened by McCain. The downsides of Obama winning are more personal, but you have to take one for the team here, because McCain winning will be analogous to Christians denying environmental change, and ignoring it rather than fixing it.

If Obama is elected and nothing changes, fantastic! That means we have halted our steady decline, and maybe during the next election, we can work on getting a more legit candidate in. McCain is a right-wing puppet, just as Obama is a left-wing puppet. McCain will continue on the path that Bush & Cheney have taken us down. You are all entitled to your own opinion, but I know that if McCain wins, you guys will be regretting it in a few years, and if Obama wins, and the world keeps going to shit, you will blame it on him . So thanks for making my future shittier McCain supporters.

then take steps to change it, there are no spoilers in elections, one party will win and that's that, it honestly doesnt matter who because nothing will change, obama is as big a war monger as McCain only difference, like bush, Obama has never been in battle, he hasnt a clue what he's doing, McCain has, he knows what it's like and what it does

Obama says he didnt support the war or the surge but he always
votes to increase funding for it, he's said he's willing to do
what ever it takes and no option including military is beyond
what he'll commit to to keep iran from getting nuclear arms,
it's bush all over again with the WMDs

no, they've made it personal, this election is about us and
them, they cand give us 3 shitball elections back to back and
expect us to be happy, no, this election is to generate
support for the 3rd parties, it's to make changes in washington
changes in our favor, your vote for obama will not make a
difference when the man is 14 point over McCain, just consider
that each point is more than 1 million voters, vote your
convictions, not the lesser evil

it wont put a neutered dog in office, the president has little
power, he's noting more than a dildomat and a figurehead. he
cant make laws, he has to request money from congress, the
only power he really has is the veto, dont be impressed with
what they claim they'll do because it's all talk

While that is true, and I would love for there to more than two parties, I just don't think it will happen any time in America's near future.

Sure, there's a ton of support for 3rd party candidates here at the shroomery. But the shroomery is not your average cross section of American voters sadly enough.

I honestly don't think the bulk of Americans have any desire to step outside of popular politics at all.

If you want to support third parties, donating some of your time as an activist trying to help the party will help bring about change waaay more than voting for them, which really is a waste.  If you care about this nation, vote for the lesser of two evils.  There are other, better ways to try and bring down the two party system.  I think Ron Paul made some progress on that this year, and that the internet will be a great tool for it in the future, so don't give up on it yet.  Just don't be dumb and think that you are somehow doing us all a favor by voting third party on election day.

People always say that voting 3P is a waste of a vote.  However im going to vote for who ever i identify myself with best.  Surly not obama or mccaine for me, thats why im not voting for them.

Also how come white people are so secretive about their political affiliations?

I refuse to talk politics outside of the internets.

Because we learned long ago that people get pissy when someone has a differing political opinion.

That's not always true. My aunt who is a VP at a major Wall St. bank is a democrat (her whole family [in laws] are dems) voting for Obama. She makes well over $250k a year, more like $750k - 900k a year if not more (last I knew she was making right around 750k but that was like 9 years ago). I find her voting for Obama somewhat humorous to be honest.

If she makes that much, I'm sure she knows what she's doing in voting for him.

Why? Because she should be voting for the candidate that allows the rich more in the way of tax breaks?

Maybe she just has more of a selfless perspective.

the same thing was said about putting men on the moon but if
you're not willing to 'waste' your vote and break away from
the norm it certainly wont happen, there cant be any change if
we dont work for it

Quote:

there is all across the nation, look at the support ron paul
got, sure he's a republican but he's one of the 'fringe', much
closer to being a constitutionalist or a libertarian than a
republican, in the primaries he had 25% of the vote in some
states, he averaged about 14% across the nation, during the
primary debates he beat out all the other republican
candidates in the polls.... where'd that support go?

we'll they've since decided to vote for the lesser evil
because there's simply no way the dark horse is gonna win
since Ron Paul dropped out of the race, where'd all those
votes he had go? oh yeah, the lesser evil

simply put, if we can give the 14% that Ron Paul had in the
primaries to another 3rd party candidate, americans will
notice and will give more consideration to them in the next
election, washington will notice and begin to adopt some of
the ideals of these other candidates and they will start
working for us again
