newbie dummy questions * 1

ok, I bought a growing kit on the net, basically its just a "put tray in plastic bag, spray water until top soil is moist, then close bag and wait until harvest" kit. Well, I think its mycelium, it showed up after just one day, little, very bright white poofs. They kinda look like the little teeny tiny styraphome balls in a bean bag chair. I just wanna make sure its mycelium, cuz I saw pics on here of mycelium and they were more string-like. I have never done 'shrooms b4, and have never grown b4, and the directions that came with the kit were quite vague. Also, I have done a lot of research on the net but Ive seen a lot of differing opinions. Are shrooms better fresh or dried? Dosage also confuses me because people will say 2 grams but not say whether or not its fresh or dry shrooms. I want a trip that will show visuals, but not make me completely disconnected with reality, since after this harvest will be my first time (ive never done acid either, only pot and salvia 5x)

But back to the kit, should I spray again after the 1st harvest, or just close the bag again with the same moisture that has been in there since the beginning? I know you more experienced people think newbies should understand all of this right away, but its quite foreign to an inexperienced grower. Any help with all of my lamo questions that you all have probably answered a million times would be greatly appreciated.

Wait a minute, what does pre-colonized mean? that the spores are included? If so, they arent hard to get. Do a search on Google and type in "magic mushroom grow kit" and in no time you will finally find one that will ship to the USA. Took me several days and A LOT of searches to finally find one that ships to US. I only found 3 sites that will. Not very difficult if you have the patience to sit in front of your computer for a long perioud of time.

can you talk to the supplier via eMail? I haven't heard of any companies selling what you are describing, besides Fungi Perfecti and those are gourmet strains. They should tell you all you need to know, though, since they are marketing to the inexperienced. The Mushroom Cultivator by Stamets is like the bible for newbies, PF tek will hold your hand the whole way, but TMC will help you understand what is actually going on. Fresh is more potent, I usually assume dry weight since most people dry them. If dried without heat, the potency can be preserved. First time? Eat them with someone you trust- even if they are just babysitting you, eat them with food in your stomach and be somewhere you consider safe. Above all, have fun and don't call 911 if you get a little scared! You would regret that mistake! pm me if you want, I'll try to help if I can.

Actually, it's better to eat them on an empty stomach to avoid any overwhelming nausea, but yes, it is a good idea to have SOME food in your stomach; have a big healthy lunch if you're eating your shrooms around dinner time.

Is it really all that inconceivable for you all to believe that you can get drugs off the internet? Like I said b4, if you have the patience, you'll get whatever you are looking for on the net. I just wanted the answers to my questions about the grow kit, because from the little I know right now it looks pretty healthy and is seeming to be progressing nicely. But I just need to know if the mycelium is right, cuz on the pics I have seen here the mycelium is stringy, and the white stuff in my kit is little round poofs, which is very bright (probably the brightest white I have ever seen). Its been three days since I got the kit. Any help for my QUESTIONS LISTED IN ORIGINAL POST would be greatly appreciated.

i agree the shock shown here is that all the vendors i've seen will sell you presterilized substrate kits, but you've got to inject the spores.

as for the white, it's probably ok, give it a few days. the only other thing it could be is cobweb mold.

Regarding your dosage question, check out the "How to dose" section on the shroomery, it will give you an idea of the weight difference between dried and fresh.

Tell us where you got the kit and maybe someone can help you. Yes, it's hard to believe some company would send you a kit with a psilocybe species already growing in it. The white is probably mold or they probably sent you a gourmet mushroom species. But if it's legit, let us know.

There are cubensis kits for sale, mostly in Holland and a few in the UK.
I am surprised that they sent the kit to you in the States, as this type of import is illegal.

hey, you should ask those questions in the cultivation forum, there is a better probability to get answers regarding your anxiety if everything is okee. as you see, the thread in this forum is discussing whether or not there are kits for sale, if those kits are pre-colonized, if it is legal to order from the states... you care not for those answers! lol

different strains have different mycelium. you have to know WHAT strain r u cultivating so as to check out for sure. a photo will be of much help. but anyway, healthy myc whould be rhizomorph or fluffy and the color is white [with many many many exceptions...]

imho, start with 1 and a half grams, stay at home, help the shroom show you what can it done. you are not gonna get mad by visuals at those levels.

definately. after harvesting ALL shrooms, the casing needs water badly. btw, do not spray water on shrooms... they dont like bath. also a good idea is to use only boiled water [not hot... lol]

there are no such questions :wink: although i think you should read carefully all those cultivation faqs at our beloved shroomery and then... PF CAKES are so fuckin' easy and its cool because you start from scratch...

thank you very much for answering my questions kykeon, my original questions, lol.  I have read the FAQ many times, but I think growing is one of those things that you truly wont fully understand until after you have growed.  The first time I read on how to grow, it was like reading chinese, thats why I wanted to talk to real people who could explain it to me in more lay-man terms. :grin:

I have seen 4 different websites that sell pre-colonized P. Cubensis casings. Two of them, I know for a fact, ship to the US without hassle...

when i first read PF tek, i said to myself that its easy! then when i was about to start, i realised there were ONE MILLION little details that i wasnt aware of... :smile:

Hey everyone, well, its now day 5 since I started my little kit, and I've got pins!  Yippee!!!  They are cream colored and have a teeny little red spot on the top, Im so excited!  Can anyone tell me how much longer is expected now to harvest?

theres plenty of people in europe selling pre-colonized kits.
i got one and got a lot from my harvests. its lasted four flushes now and after a few days of nothing, plenty of mycelium and large pins have shown up again.



from 1-2 flushes. (dry)

Hey, just thought I'd update on my kit. I got the 1st flush in a little over a week, 2nd flush about 4 days after 1st flush, and now the 3rd flush is slowly growing, but I've noticed the pins on this last flush are a lot bigger (taller and fatter) than the previous two, there just arent as many.
So far I have reaped about 1/2 ounce dry. If anyone is interested in reading my trip report, its listed under the trip tips thread.
