What happens when everyone can't pay rent or mortgages?  I'm not leaving my place!

i didn't say shit won't hit the fan, all i said was that we'll have to see how it plays out

at this point, there's little to nothing any of us can actually do to deter whatever may/is going to happen

Well, say that the shit does hit the fan.

Then what?

I'm beginning to think that's what a zombie apocalypse is going to be about, not people dead or infected, just completely shell-shocked and dazed and confused.

Most people don't have food behind tomorrow morning...

That's barely better.  Wait until your physical cash is not even worth having save for wiping front to back!

i think my landlord would be lenient, considering he forgot that i even lived in this house i rent from him for about 5 months.  two good things about having a lawyer for a landlord: 1) he's too busy with cases to follow up on rent collection (i know this for a fact after seeing some $3000 cashier's cheques from tenants late on rent), 2) if i ever need a lawyer, he'll represent for cheap

but seriously, you're right.  if shit does hit the fan, the majority of us will be fucked.  i think back to russia when it cost people a year's + wage just to buy a loaf of bread

We're so used to having everything provided for us without thinking that if the government was really to impose martial law or whatever, people would gladly accept it as long as people get the shit their used to.

If the shit hits the fan, I'm braving the mobs and riots to hike to South America and live in a rainforest, where I can forage.

speaking of not being able to pay rent, I saw a fucked up thing on the news the other night about how tent cities are popping up and/or growing in metropolitan areas across the US right now.  Modern day Hoovervilles, who'd a thunk it.

Seriously?!  It's my dream to live in a tent but it's too cold around here!  What cities are allowing this?

As much as i HATE even considering the possibility of a financial meltdown and rios etc... I think i'm going to grab a few boxes of ammo tomorrow.  Can never hurt to have a couple hundred rounds on hand

I only have 10 in my clip at the moment, not even full capacity.  That's just improper planning

the city in the story was in nevada. I can't remember if it was vegas or elsewhere.  Thats sad.  You don't want to live in a shanty town, do you?

i have to agree with you here.  we're pretty much on life support as is.  might as well have the government being the cable and the outlet and the electricity

The less between myself and the open air, the better.  If I was gonna do the tent thing, I'd want to be away from others, though.

yeah, these tent cities are 3rd world style pits of depressions and broken dreams.  Not exactly a happy camping experience.

I think your referring to post-WWI Germany before the Nazis could establish full control.

Does history repeat itself?

I was planning on reading books on sustainable farming, I don't think this collapse is going to be as bad as you could imagine.

There will be downtime before we get back on our feet. And honestly, anything that is a catalyst for change I would welcome.

Lets get the Venus Project rolling is right.
