i KNEW the bailout was totally insane, now i know even more
    #9018005 -

"I'm against the $700,000,000,000 bailout of the architects of America's economic collapse. Instead of rewarding the thieves and greed mongers, why not take a fraction of that amount, $225 billion dollars, and just once, give each American citizen over 18 years of age $1,000,000? To make the math simple, our population is about 300,000,000. About 25% of these are under eighteen leaving 225 million eligible recipients of this one time, One Million Dollar Citizen's Dividend. Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

Assuming a 30% tax rate, every individual 18+ has to pay $300,000 in taxes. That sends $67,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam and saves the government 573 billion dollars over the current bailout plan. What this means is that every adult 18+ has $700,000 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $1.4 million. What would you do with $700,000 to $1,400,000 in your family?  Pay off your mortgage housing crisis solved. Repay college loans what a great boost to new grads, Put away money for your kid's college, it'll be there. Save in a bank create money to loan to entrepreneurs. Buy new energy efficient cars, save the American automotive industry. Invest in the market, capital drives growth. Pay for your parent's medical insurance, health care improves. Start a new business - secure your children's financial future. Finally give generously to the charity of your choice.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...let's change lives for the better and in doing so, make our country and our economy stronger. If we're going to do a bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+! for companies that caused this debacle? - liquidate them. Seize their assets. Sell off their parts. Sell off the real estate. Make them pay. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up. As for the Federal Reserve, FEDERALIZE it! Take it out of the hands of the same private bankers that engineered this mess!

The one time, "One Million Dollar Citizen's Dividend"; would do more to stimulate America's economy and improve every American life than would continuing to line the pockets of the a@@holes who continue to rip us off. It's this simple. We deserve it and the greed-driven money changers don't. It is time we demand our fair share!

Forward this message to as many people as you can. E-mail a copy to your congressmen and State representatives in Washington D.C."

One billion is not one million-million, it is one thousand-million.  $225 billion divided between 225 million people would be $1000 each.

To put this in perspective, the Economic Stimulus checks cost the U.S. $152 billion.

Yes, inflation coupled with massive layoffs due to business failures.  Not a great combo.

It seems that almost no one understands the details of the so-called "bail-out."  I wish that the government would hold a press conference & use small words to explain it accurately to the public.

Confusing aren't they, all those zeros?

225G : 225M = $1000 per capita, not a million.

Still I like your plan EXCEPT.. the $1000 should be handed out in the form of products people need, made in America. Hand out coupons that can be spent on American products. It would do a lot of good for the people and benefit the economy. People will be stimulated to "buy american" again.

No, it wouldn't.  How will coupons to spend on goods compensate for inflation and unemployment?

I think it would. I think there needs to be a lot more of a push to buy American produced goods. force companies to bring back employment. The people need to say "if your going to outsource my peoples' jobs then we arent going to buy your shit"

I buy American made as most as possible

You are mistaken if you think they understand it any more then we do. This whole situation just confirms that they don't really know wtf they are doing.

Dude, you're at that point now, huh? Lame. I'm sure something will come around.. I finally got a job, assuming I can pass a UA, which shouldn't be a problem. I truly wish you luck. If I could afford it, I would send you money.. Unfortunately, I have a lot of catching up to do. Good luck.

Counterquestion: do you seriously think the bailout will prevent all that?

Spend money on damage control and then let the recession come. The sooner the better because the later it will come the harder it will hit.

'Sleepy' is right all the way around, But so is 'Veritas'.

This is the biggest chance for american people to stand up to its government but again we'll probably just sit back let the decisions be made for us. We need to internalize ourselves and focus on making all of or own products instead of outsourcing and trading, letting other poorer countries do the work for us while pushing them into further economic disaster themselves.
I've been trying to come up with a new descriptive one word explanation of our government and how we just use these countries to make ourselves richer. If we got everything from our neighbors we would be supporting our own country and selves. We are STILL the big bully of the world and just because we don't have slavery on our soil doesn't mean we can't somewhere else RIGHT?

I think we are just most afraid of turning this power over to say China...?

The "bailout" involves government purchase of troubled assets, not a gift to the executives of financial institutions.  If these assets remain on the books of these institutions, they will be forced to reduce the amount of credit they offer to small businesses across the country.  Once these businesses have no access to credit, they will begin to lay off employees.  Eventually they will fail.  Then the larger businesses which depend upon income from these small businesses will lay off employees.  Eventually they will fail.

Anyone who thinks that this domino effect will be beneficial for our economy is free to explain why.

I dont think giving 1,000 to each citizen would do very much good.  Thats barely a month's rent in most places.

Besides, the people that are losing the most (thus far) are people who are heavily invested, and have significant assets.  Right now, a lot of people are complaining about the economy when it hasn't even affected them.

I think that everyone has been impacted by the foreclosure rate doubling, by outrageous gas prices, by unemployment increasing, by credit becoming much more difficult to obtain, by the housing market slump, etc...etc...

This is not just a rich person's problem.
