Well.. i hate to say it but, its not her problem.  If people don't like guns, then they can close their eyes.  Its an explicit right (that is infringed upon unconstitutionally anyway).

I thought it had to be concealed tho. You get a licence to carry a concealed weapon. Not holstered to their hip in plain veiw. I would concider that as a threat to my safty. If i new she had one, but she concealed it, it would be alot different.

Open carry is legal without permit.

Concealed requires permit.

And how is an invisible gun less dangerous than a visible one?

An invisible gun provide you with the illusion that it isn't there.

I wouldn't care at all. But i would carry my gun out in the open as well, in case she was a lunatic. Im just saying that is isn't a normal thing to do, so people have the right to worry as to why she is carrying in plain view. If she is a NRA activist or something, then sweet. She should be handing out pamphlets. No need to scare the shit out of everyone. You have to admit it would cause a ruckus everywhere she goes. No one would dare fuck with her tho.

I hate it when places ban "weapons" as "policy"

if you are obeying the law of having a ccw, you should be able to carry it anywhere.

take the case of the gun rights advocate who had one, she was required by law not to carry in a restaraunt simply because alcohol was served.

a madman came in and methodically shot almost every person in the bar, including her parents.

she could have shot back, and protected everyone, but she couldnt.

did the madman obey the law? did the virginia tech shooter obey the law?

no.

what if a mad mad wanted to come shoot up the place?

who would shoot back?

washington DC just reinstated the allowance of handguns

crime went down

why? because now criminals dont know if someone will shoot back.

workplaces, soccer teams, etc, want to disallow guns because they think someone will act irrational and start shooting when they get mad.

people dont do this, especially those with permits.

i am sure this mother is concerned for the well being of her child, and thats why she carries the gun. she isnt going to get mad at the coach and blast him over a bad call, etc.

I understand where your coming from.. but people don't have the right to not be offended.  She didn't do *anything* besides carry a firearm on her hip.  People scare the shit out of themselves, not the other way around.  It wouldn't cause a rukus in many places.  Shouldn't the people who have a problem with guns be the ones that are lunatics?  It's an explicit constitutionally guaranteed right.  I don't even think the constitution is legitimate, and i still see the exact words "the right to bear arms shall not be infringed
".  How can one even argue with this statement?

Im not arguing about that at all. But just because your allowed to do it, doesn't mean you flaunt it in front of kids like that. Pull your shirt over it.

I don't know man. Im all for the right to bear arms, but i wouldn't want someone sitting next to my kids strapped like that. My brother in law comes over to my house all the time with his weapon on him and i ask him to leave it in the car because i don't want my kids staring at it and getting all fascinated, or freaked out by it. It just freaks people out and makes them feel unsafe. Plus if someone did have a gun that was trying to slaughter everyone, im sure they would target her first because they see her strapped. If it was concealed she would have a better chance of being able to use it in a situation imo.

It's rational to condition kids to demonize guns even though you agree that there's nothing wrong with guns and everyone should have the right to bare them.

If none of the parents came to the soccer games that she attended because they feared what she was doing with a gun in plain sight, then none of their kids would play soccer. I wouldn't take my kid there if i had a problem with it. I WOULD talk to her and judge for myself if i felt she was a danger. If she had a legitimate reason or concern, i would probably be fine with it. Otherwise im not taking my kids around some lady i don't know, and had a gun strapped to her in the open for unknown reasons. when i carry a gun, i toss a coat on so i don't attract attention. I don't understand wtf she is trying to accomplish. Is she just saying, Don't fuck with me or i will shoot you? I would look at her like she was out of her mind. And that is even if i had a gun CONCEALED on me at that moment.

I like how everyone makes a big deal about a soccer mom bringing a gun to a soccer game, and yet no one says word one about Mr. Policeman toting guns around schools, or whatever. Paradis is right. We've been conditioned to believe that only govt types should carry weapons openly. I don't like guns, but I sure as hell will defend people's rights to have them as long as we live in the society we do.

Sure.

In this case however, we're talking about a private group that someone has voluntarily joined.  If the group decides that it wants to give up self preservation by banning firearms, they should be able to.  No one is forcing you to join the group, you are voluntarily accepting the terms required for entrance into the group.

people could care less about the rules in those places where

a pretty unlikely scenario since most criminals like to carry
concealed as opposed to open carry, when I lived in atlanta I
carried openly, walked into a cuban restaurant, the owner came
over and started talking to me regarding my pistol and the
laws, being a business owner that had been robbed a couple
times he was considering buying one himself, strangely enough
no one in the establishment, no one on the streets or anywhere
else seemed to panic when I carried openly, more people tended
to react when I carried concealed and the gun printed through
my shirt
