Portable Water Filters

Hey kids. Me again.

What kind of water filter would you use if you were needing to provide your own fresh water without electricity.

Say you want it durable, and a good filter to remove organisms and shit. Say you want it to have a decent filter capacity, as in, it could filter a lot before needing to be replaced. Also, say you want it to be able to filter out even filthy pond water.

I would like some constructive advice, please.

I'd hate to have to start a fire everywhere that I want a drink. Wouldn't hit be required to distill?

when I used to go backpacking we used these large iodine tablets in a gallon of water (designed for this), let dissolve, then boil the water to get rid of the iodine, though you could still taste it.  Anyways, this is the way we did it and never had problems...

If you are trying to live off grid I would recommend Ozone treatment for water and/or ultraviolet treatment, ozone will take more of the taste out but both will kill 99.99% of all bacteria and can be hooked to solar powered applications. These work well for collecting rain water.

Ozone is bad for the earth.

I would probably use it if I had the need, but most people trying to live off-grid in the woods probably wouldn't
