Weilii Growing Directly Off Wood + Lactarius Indigo + More!

These are finds from today.....
hope ya'll find them interesting, informing and entertaining!


Here's the main attraction, Weilii growing straight off of a piece of wood. Red Crayon & I have found many like this before, but never had our camera on us. We even found one once growing off a pinecone!



Here's some Lactarius Indigo Crayon and I stumbled across. We found several other clusters as well. We chopped them into bits, breaded them, and fried them, went excellent with our main entree of salmon.



Strobilomyces Floccopus or "Old Man of the Woods."
It was a bit to big and old for a good tea brew, with the bugs and all.

Weilii are a lignicolous species, which means they grow on wood or decomposing wood.

You make tea out of old man of the woods? Ive never heard of that, is it good?

Yes you can make a tea out of it, it doesnt taste very appetizing but they say its quite medicinal and relaxes you mentally and physically and is a anti-spasmodic, its been in old folk medecines for generations.

I think it was either a Maple tree, or a Sweet Gum tree, not sure exactly. But I noticed lots of sweet gum balls laying around, and there are also lots of maple trees around as well.

I cant wait until chanterelle season rolls around.
They should be popping up the next big rain. Has anyone else been finding any in North GA? Crayon and I usually hit up the WMA's and come out with baskets full.

about 60 miles north in nat.forest i'm finding some boletes and false chantrelles and about 5 different kinds amanitas ,and various puffballs.there are alotta small springs creeks in the area plus alotta old growth timber.mainly hemlock in the areas that stay moist most of the year.

fishfarmin, what city or county are you speaking of? if you dont mind me asking. In extreme North West Cherokee there is a great place to hunt edibles, with creeks, badass wildlife, and thousands of acres. But be careful going to any WMA though..... Its hunting season.
