    #895039 - 09/20/02 04:52 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

These are from the past few days, some from the park some from my garden.
I tried to ID them with a book but i am a total newbie at this.
------------------------------------------
Hygrophorus Psittacinus - in my garden.

--

--
the above were only a few feet away from where Hygrophorus Conicus grow.

--

Scleroderma Citrinum - this is the closest i could get. what do you think?

--

Laccaria Laccata - i'm not sure what this is and i thought it was Laccaria Laccata but now i'm not so sure. growing under some small trees in the dirt by a wood path in the park,

--

--

--

--

Panaeolus Foenisecii - found about a month ago in the park on the side of a path. i think i got the ID right.

The one you found in the park appears to ba an amanita of some sort, dont eat it they can cause a painful death. That's just my two cents man.

Nice photos.

Hygrophorus psittacinus looks right. I don't know of another mushroom that looks that that when they're young and green and is slimy all over like that one looks.

Hygrophorus conicus could be right - did you verify the black staining? There are a ton of red, conical Hygrocybes.

Scleroderma citrinum, maybe. Did you cut it in half to verify the thick, rind-like skin?

Laccaria laccata, nope. That's a Russula, similar to Russula decolorans. To identify Russulas accurately requires a microscope, so that species guess is just to give you a species similar to your specimen you can look up. An easy way to check for Russulas is to break the stem - it will snap like chalk, not like most mushrooms do. BTW, Laccarias almost always have relatively few gills with a distinct purplish/pinkish color (at least when young), and the stems are not white.

Panaeolus foenisecii, maybe. Certainly they do look like that, and the habitat looks right. A spore print would be extremely valuable for this ID.

Good to see somebody trying to ID their finds. Keep trying, you'll get lots better with practice.

Happy mushrooming!

cheers to all who replied and whatnot.

toxicman
thanks. H.Conicus does go black with age. i have lots in my garden.
I've probably collected 30 or so in the last month.
S.Citrinum. i didn't collect that mushroom and i''ve only just found the picture i took. doh!
Russula ** - yep. i've looked in my pocket guide and i'm sure its one of those now. i have just broken the stem and inside is like foam, white in colour.
P.Foenisecii - i will look for more and definately get a spore print next time. i did collect one a month or so ago but i dont remember taking a spore print.

Mr. Mushrooms
thanks! i'll be sure to give some more accurate descriptions next time. i also make sure i take a photo of the surrounding habitat when i have my camera with me.

I love H. Psittacinus too! ever since i found H.Conicus in my garden and saw H. Psittacinus on the same page in the book i've always wanted to find one. i love the stem colour transition from green to orange.

i found it mowing the lawn, it nearly got chopped up! in the pic below you can see a v.young mushroom as well. totally orange and nearly translucent!
