Looks more like scleroderma (possibly scleroderma areolatum) to me because of the absence of a stem in this specimen and the purple colour of the flesh. This species is toxic, DO NOT EAT.

I agree, it probably is Scleroderma. They look very similar to the S. citrinum in Arora's book.

Those giant puffballs sure are fun I found one the size of a football once. Very nice species.
