Police officer Nystagmus test
    #8936564 -

I know that nystagmus is involuntary eye movement, but when cops preform the nystagmus test as a field sobriety test, what EXACTLY are they looking for.

i've heard your eyes shake when they move all the way to the right or left and they can judge your reaction time.  also pupil reaction (constriction, etc) to the light stimulus.

i think it's more an opportunity to get in your face and smell you.

Well then...

the police officer when conducting DWI stops specifically look for your eyes to not smoothly go from side to side.  If you are intoxicated they will jitter when you move them from one side to the other.

If you are normal they do not jitter and have a smooth motion.

Its kind of hard to explain but your eyes will kinda move like in a ticking motion and jump to the next spot instead of flow smoothly.

I do not know if it works for other drugs, but it is a definite indicator for alcohol.

It works a lot better for alcohol than pot.  I am not sure about others.

tell that to twitch and some chick I met at a waffle house,
the chick actually had nystagmus, twitch was on meds that
caused it, both were busted because the cops were 'trained' in
the recognition of drug use, turns out the cops werent well
versed enough to recognize medical conditions

being tired also produces the same sort of effect as alcohol

^^ well that's why theres a bunch of tests and not just 1. they also have you walk a straight line, or stand on 1 foot and touch your nose, or whatever.

speaking of walking a straight line, anyone ever see that video where the cop asks the guy to help him put down some tape, only to have him fall on his face when he leans over to put it on the ground?

I failed a field sobriety test and hadnt had anything in 3
years, I kept asking the cop to give me a breathalyzer and he
wouldnt until after I failed the test, he could have saved me
the time, embarrassment and skinned elbow but he wanted it his way

cops are pigs... they like making peoples lives miserable. After all, they are at work. When they pull someone over it's keeping them busy so the longer they can hold someone, the less bored they are.

hate pigs. speaking of which... theres should be a pig/cop smiley.

Yeah, they certainly don't go through extensive training, and schooling, because they feel they are contributing something positive to the world.

Conviction or belief isn't enough justification for their primitive and immoral behavior.

Sure they go through training, it's like going to college to get your BA... college is training too.

not saying all cops are like that, but you can't tell me a lot of cops dont like giving people a hard time when they don't need to. If this is what you're saying, then you obviously haven't encountered many cops (or at least cops in my area)
