400 watt hps w/digital ballast

Ive owned a 1000 watt hps in the past and it produced a good amount of heat. I no longer have it and just ordered a 400 watt hps with a digital ballast and i was wondering what amount of heat i would be looking at from it. Id like to run it in a 2 foot by 4 foot by 6 foot external closet without any inline fans and ducts if at all possible. anyone have any experience with 400 watt hps?

If it's an aircooled hood, and you have good enough fan to suck in cool and suck out the hot hood air, you should be fine. Also, you need good ventilation. Don't be surprised if you have to open the closet doors a little. The digital ballasts produce WAY less heat than the standard ballasts. I have ued both. You should be good. Although, fyi, you should be able to buy a MH conversion bulb for that light. There are some great places on the net where you can find them for about 40 dollars. It would be worth it in my opinion. Well i have a hood that can be air cooled and they are also sending me a hood with the system but the one they are sending cant be cooled. I just didnt want to drill holes in the closet for the ventilation. I guess ill bite the bullet and drill a couple holes either on top or in the back.

If it's your house, then you could always get a high velocity fan and mount it in the ceiling and have the hot air blow into the attic, assuming that is an option. ? IDK. I just used fans when I had my 1k watt, 600 watts, and 400 watt all going in the same room. I also had a CO2 generator, which bunred propane to create it. It generated a lot of heat, but I eventually got it to the point where it didn't usually go above 85.
