If you ever decide to learn a new language...

and stop being a monolingual dumb ass American like me, I got a couple tips that would help, mainly in the understanding how the language is spoken aspect.

1. Buy/Rent movies that have English Subtitles and watch.

2. Listen to these movies while you're sleeping.

I'm learning Polski (Polish) for my second language, I know some Spanish, and was going to shoot for that because it makes better geocommunication-sense, but I really want to learn a "Dead" Language...  I bought some movies about a year ago that are spoken in Polski but have English subtitles, and it's really helped me to understand the accents and pronunciations of words and listening to the videos in your sleep helps you understand subconsciously, which strengthens conscious understanding.

I know some French (I'm in Canada, it's all over everything) but I'd like to learn to be fluent.

I used to have a Jewish 'girlfriend' (non-monogamist relationship) that was obsessed with  Deutschland, and took German language courses in college, she did an exchange program and went there and fucked a bunch of German nationalist boys.

Ich denke dass sie Missbrauch mag. :smile:

A great way to build your vocabulary is reading a newspaper in your target language and making a list of verbs and nouns in common usage.

Well, My family is from Warsaw, and my dad and his parents are 100% Polski... The reason I put the quotations around "Dead" is because Polish IS a "Dead" language on a geo-lingual/international scale.

Just like Swedish is a "dead" language.. but I'm sure Swedish people in Sweden speak it.

Yeah and I wouldn't called Swedish a dead language in Sweden either :grin:

spanish and german are my mother tongues... my dad is german and so am i, but we moved to ecuador when i was 4 so that's where i learned spanish, and later on enligsh (in school)... i definitely agree with watching movies in the language you are learning (with subtitles... once you get good enough you can watch them without subs)... that is probably the reason i am so good in english, since i used to work at a movie theater...

as far as learning another language, i would like to learn portuguese or dutch, since they are pretty similar to my mother tongues...

You should learn Portuguese... that's one of the languages I want to learn because I'm interested in Brazilian culture and want to travel through South America one day.

Shouldn't be hard for you to learn either... I hear it's not a far stretch from Spanish.
