So if the United States is perpetually in debt ...
    #8898757 -

... then how do we ever spend money?  I mean, I always hear about the Unites States being in billions of dollars in debt ... so how does anything ever get done?  If we can still spend money without having it, then does the [amount of the] debt even matter?

... am I just confused?  Somebody clear this up for me, plz.

The US makes money.  We just spend it all before we pay off any of the debt.

But but, how does that work?  I mean, if I go to the bank to cash a check and I'm overdrawn, they won't let me do it?  Double standards, much?

I'm also having trouble understanding how you can spend a trillion dollars you don't have. I mean don't get me wrong...sounds like an awesome concept, materializing money from nowhere, but seriously: wtf.

I may be wrong but I believe the way the system works is that we borrow from one person and give to another and constantly just keep borrowing to pay off another person.

Hmm, that makes sense ... but who would be stupid enough to loan money to a country that's billions of dollars in debt?  I wish I could get loans with a credit score of 0 ...

They probably just want to get in good with the US (atleast economically) the benefits would be huge.

When I was young, my step-brother told me that if I buried Monopoly money it would one day become real.

... little did I know at the time that $500 bills didn't exist!  I should have buried the $50s and $100s.  Silly me.

Well, the government gets loans the the Fed, its central bank which goes towards whatever it is being spent on.  The taxpayer Pays this back to the fed in taxes through the IRS.  But since the loan must be paid back with interest, there is never enough money to pay back to loan.  Therefore our global monetary system is set up to funnel the wealth of all into the pockets of very few.

--------------------
"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

Albert Einstein
