Sneaky Debt Collectors
    #4045917 - 04/12/05 03:04 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

I got a strange note in my mailbox today from one of my neighbors. I don't know my neighbors and don't know which one wrote the note either. Anyway, here is what the note said:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I live across the street.

Yesterday a gentleman, David Taylor, called & asked if I would leave a note for you to call him. He said he has been unable to reach you.

Anyway he wants you to call him at 1-877-901-8400, extension 1732.

He said it was concerning a package he has there at the office for you.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, as I don't know any David Taylor and have no packages coming to me I assume he is a debt collector, but could also be some sort of scam. I've been having some financial difficulties and owe a few credit card companies several thousand dollars and they call anywhere from 15-30 times a day. For that reason I don't answer my phone unless I recognize the phone number. Just because I don't respond to any of there calls doens't mean they can call my neighbors and have them leave me notes to call them, that is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I wrote my state's general attorny and filed a complaint. I don't want to call this number from my house, but if any of you want to call and harrass Mr. Taylor go right ahead. Thanks, Peace & Love, pshawny

I tried a reverse phone look up on the number but I didn't find anything. That's kinda odd cause all of the debt collectors that call me are lookupable. Call them with *67 to block your number and see what's up.

lmfaooooo

I just called and talked to  David Taylor.

I said that my friend wanted me to call and see who David is....that he left a message that he had a package for him.

His response..."Have your friend call me...he doesn't have to be afraid of me.

He refused to tell me if he was a bill collector...when asked.

Then he hung up on me.

What a fricken loser David is!~

I suggest that everyone calls David and harass him.  :smirk:

Sounds like a good idea. Anyone know some good laywer jargon?

I was thinking something like,

"Hello? David Taylor?"
"Yea"
"My name is ...... and I represent the firm ... (out of phone book). My client gave me this number to determine when we can pick up this package."
"Well..."
"Are you a bill collector"
"Well..."
"If you are, I should inform you that you and the company you represent are in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If you continue this practice, we will be forced to file a lawsuit."

Something like that, try to scare the bastard.

For finding out about this guy being a debt collector:

Asking this guy if he is a debt collector

Calling him up, saying you want to repay your debt, without saying a name, and listening to him unzip and start to beat off and say "Usury, yeah, stealing college students money with credit offers our psychologists have shown they don't look at and are explotitive, yeah"

Perhaps none of you care or have your numbers blocked, but I'd be careful about getting tangled up with a bill collector by calling to harrass them from a traceable home or cell number.

I have no idea, but some of them are pretty nasty and you might end up on an auto dial list that phones you until eternity.

I once had a bill that I refused to pay. I had once called to check my balance on that account from the house of a friend's friend that was 3,000 miles from where I lived in another country. They actually phoned that person and asked them to pass a message to me because they had a record that I had once phoned from that random number. They kept on calling that person too.....
