growing kit for dummies

Hi guys,

well I ate my 1st shroom last weekend and was rather disappointed since I didn't feel anything. I had bought this thai shrooms in masterdam and finally most of my mates who said they'd just stick to hash wanted to try shrooms as well so we all ended up with just one mushroom and noone actually felt anything...
I was so dissapointed that I got myself a growingkit (since I'm a lazy bastard and had no clue on how to make a cake).
The guy at the shop told me to put some (just an inch or so) water in an aquarium or a big recipient, put the kit in it, and put some plastic foil over it with holes in it so it can breath...
is this a good method... I've opened my kit yesterday and it looks like it's starting to work but I was wondering if this was a good method...

my other question is about contamination, I read a lot about it, how ca I avoid it and if it happens how do I detect it? and whatare the risks (does it just kills the shrooms or does it let them grow but make them toxic???).
I found a tiny fly in my recipient when I got home today and got it out... I hope it didn't lay eggs in my kit... bloody thing!

well, it's fun to grow and probably even more fun to eat so I guess if I fuck up I'll just try again... and again.... and agin....  :grin:

One shroom, unless it is a monster, will not usually do that much, you need to weigh out your doses. 3-5 grams dry is enough to get you going real good.

As far as your set up, I would recommend using wet perlite instead of straight water.

Contams can be hindered somewhat by keeping clean growing conditions and washing your hands real good before handling your kit.

Next time, just try the PF tek, its easy, and alot cheaper than most kits.

Growing shrooms for reatrds (see I can't even spell retards right)
The PF method

Mix together verm (1/2 cup) / BRF (1/8-1/4th cup) / water (1/4 cup)
put on layer of alum foil
press down foil inwards put on top of alum dry verm
cover with two more layers of aluminum foil
pressure cook at 15 psi for say 40 mins
take out when cool
inject with spore solution
do nothing until jars turn all white
now expose the jars to light until they start to pin
take the cakes out of the jars
put them in a container that has wet perlite at the bottom
mist & fan every once in awhile
mushrooms appear the end

so you bought a trey culture? the mycelium was already in there and you just fruit it? Sounds good. I'm curious about these. Do they keep the treys in a refrigerator untill someone buys them or what?

Amsterdam shrooms suck, my "friends" shrooms piss on them. And I am sure Anno's, Road's, and Una's shrooms make em look like a fucking clove.

Gotta disagree with ya there Xic. Those Tazzies I grew from the sjamaan.com kit are fuckin' AWESOME. Some of the best cubies I've ever had the pleasure to devour. I did my usual 5.5 grams to check 'em out and was right on the edge of ego loss for a half hour or so during the most intensely 3D morph peak I've ever experienced. I could have gone either way at that point, but decided (barely) to stay human and on this planet. Best trip in 23 years of doin' cubensis.

you don't have to fruit it or anything...
the spores are already in the mix... it's for the truly lame shrooms growers :smile:
you just open the kit (which they keep in a fridge... and by the way the guy said I had to open it and use quick cos a few days latrer it would be too late) put it in a humid atmsphere or something and there you go...
I'm pretty sure making your own cakes gives much better results for less cash but for my 1st culture I didn't feel like making the whole thing myself (especially since my 1st trip wasn't really and trip and I still don't know if I'll like it... but if I do I'll grow more & start using the PF Tek...)
