Republicans And The "Disastrous Obama Presidency"
    #8843849 -

As election season grows closer the rhetoric from the other side of the aisle grows hotter.

Our pet Conservatives here, and in reality Conservatives everywhere are putting forth the idea that an Obama presidency would be disastrous.  They say that he would weaken the economy, destroy our military, and detrimentally impact our American way of life.  They make all manner of spurious claims.  But I think it would behoove the informed voter to be aware that this is a common tactic of those hoping to influence an election.

To bolster by claim, I'll introduce some historical quotations...

Presidential rival John Adams had the following to say about Thomas Jefferson, the author of our Declaration of Independence and one of the most admired American Presidents in history...

Quote:
"If Jefferson is elected, murder, robbery, rape, adultery, and incest will all be openly taught and practiced. The air will be rent with the cries of distress, the soil will be soaked with blood, and the nation black with crimes.

Several years later, Andrew Jackson said that Jon Adams had sold underage girls to the Czar of Russia, along with having premarital sex with his wife, allegations that, similar to those which dog Mr. Obama, are impossible to disprove.

American hero of the Alamo Davy Crockett liked to claim that when Martin Van Buren left the house...

Quote:
He is laced up in corsets, such as women in a town wear, and, if possible, tighter than the best of them. It would be difficult to say, from his personal appearance, whether he was a man or woman, but for his large red and gray whiskers.

Not confining themselves to attacks on their opponents political philosophies, candidates such as Stephen Douglas also stooped to making fun of their opponents features, as Republicans have also done to Mr. Obama.  Mr. Douglass aid of Abraham Lincoln...

Quote:
Mr. Lincoln stands six feet twelve in his socks, which he changes once every ten days. His anatomy is composed mostly of bones, and when walking he resembles the offspring of a happy marriage between a derrick and a windmill.

When speaking he reminds one of the old signal-telegraph that used to stand on Staten Island. His head is shaped something like a ruta-bago, and his complexion is that of a Saratoga trunk. His hands and feet are plenty large enough, and in society he has the air of having too many of them. The glove-makers have not yet had time to construct gloves that will fit him.

These go on and on.  Lyndon Johnson distributed coloring books that showed Barry Goldwater in Ku Klux Klan robes.  George Bush liked to claim that Mccain had fathered an illegitimate black child, and said so in telephone calls before the 2000 primary elections.  And then there is the well-known fraud perpetrated against John Kerry which said that he faked his war wounds sustained in Vietnam...

The basic gist of this is to make you realize that you will hear a great many negative things about Barack in the next three months.  Zappa and Phred will likely tell you that an Obama presidency would be the greatest possible calamity that could befall the country.  They haven't quite said that rape and incest would be openly taught, but only because the mores of today prevent them from saying such.  Keep in mind that similar claims have been made about EVERY SINGLE CANDIDATE EVER, and as such should be taken with a grain of salt.

Lonestar will likely tell you that Obama is a Muslim terrorist and will probably dredge up from somewhere that Obama smokes crack.  Again, similar things have said in the past and are, as common sense would tell you, so far from the truth as to be laughable.

Do not buy into the propaganda.  Check up on things that seem spurious.  Don't believe ludicrous claims.  Remember that no matter what you hear, much worse has been said by much better people about men who turned out to be the greatest Presidents this country has ever seen.

Caveat Emptor.  Buyer beware, because you'll be stuck with this purchase for the next four years.

They say that he would weaken the economy...

"Weaken" is far too soft a word for what Obama would do to the US economy if he could persuade Congress to implement his programs.

Quote:
... destroy our military...

"Destroy" is far too harsh a word for what Obama would do to the US military if he could persuade Congress to implement his programs. He would, however, negatively impact it.

Quote:
... and detrimentally impact our American way of life.

If not Obama directly, the judges he would appoint, certainly.

Quote:
And then there is the well-known fraud perpetrated against John Kerry which said that he faked his war wounds sustained in Vietnam...

No fraud, bud, so sorry. Kerry's first Purple Heart was not the result of enemy fire. Even Kerry's own diary entries back that up.

So I take it from your rant that you don't think a McCain presidency would be bad for the US?

Am I one of the pet conservatives?

Regardless, I dont think an Obama presidency will be a disaster.  There are somethings he says that I sure dont want, but I think the check and balance system still works enough to moderate anything too radical he could do.  Its his economic ideas that worry me most, but those can be undone and I dont think all the dems in the congress agree with him.  The judges could have a real long term negative effect too...

Either way, McCain or Obama, I dont think things will be too bad at all

As I told Zappa in a similar discussion earlier; You believe the Bush administration has been an unqualified success.  We obviously have differing ideas of a successful presidency.

The economy is tanked, the military is in no shape to respond to anything that happens outside of the Middle East, and the confidence of the American people in it's government is the lowest at almost any point in history.

Not only are we not on the same page, but our books aren't even written in the same language.

And you obviously have a reading comprehension problem if you think I believe the Bush administration has been an unqualified success.

The economy is tanked...

Hardly. Seen the growth figures for Q2 of 2008? GDP up 3.3%. Europeans wish their economies were "tanking" as badly.

Bullshit.

The US is also seen as a bit of a joke to the rest of the world; you got attacked by Osama bin Laden yet you invaded the wrong country and he's still on the loose. And you elected Bush twice.

An Obama presidency will improve America's standing in the world. Now I know some of you will say that doesn't matter. But it should.

Afghanistan was the wrong country? How do you figure that?

As for bin Laden being "on the loose"... yeah, right. He's been dead for years.

Why do you say that? Why do you think it should matter?

Actually, before arguing why it should matter, first defend your assertion that electing Obama will improve America's standing in the world for any longer than a month or two. Do you think America was loved and revered by the world when Bill Clinton was running the show?

I do not believe that.  But your idea of Bush's failures are almost diametrically opposed to mine.  He has failed on illegal immigration, he has failed to cut spending sufficiently and he has failed to lead his party towards conservatism and instead allowed it to lapse into the same whorish behavior as the Dem party.  In his defense, he was busy fighting the most important battle, which is enforcing international law, something that has been ignored by Dems since Jimmy Carter.

The economy is nowhere near tanked in spite of the repeated lies of the left.  Lies.  There is no recession, as opposed to the recession we were in when he took office.  Growth for the 2nd QTR was at 3.3%.  Do you even know what a recession is?  Keep lying.

Where did I say recession, gramps?

Seen the stock market lately?  Housing prices?  New homes built?  Personal savings?

Any of those?  If you say you have, and they look good, then YOU'RE the liar.

That's a fact, jack.

The whole point of this thread is to show how overblown your rhetoric is.

YOU are the ones screaming that Obama would be a disaster, that the country would be in ruin, the military emasculated and the jewels of the economy sent to the ghettos and slums of the inner cities.  It's all so melodramatic as to be absurd.

I just want people who may not have as good a grasp of history as I do to know that everything you've said about Obama was said about Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, both Roosevelts, and every single other great President we've ever had.  You don't KNOW.

In contrast, I don't think a Mccain Presidency would be so bad.  Hell, I probably think it would go better than you would.  I know you're no big fan of his either.  But the hot-air is just so HOT.

People said Jefferson was a Marxist?  Inexperienced?  A community organizer?  Teddy Roosevelt was OK.  Franklin?  A fucking douche, perhaps the single most damaging president ever.  Lincoln was not so popular at the time.

The economy is not fucked.  Housing prices went up abnormally and now they are adjusting.  As they should.  The stock market isn't the economy and it is doing what it does.  Over and over again.  Which is fluctuate but exhibit a general upward trend.  Do you recall the crash that Clinton oversaw?  This is nothing.

Some of your post is just bullshit along the same lines of Obama saying that McCain is going to call him a nigger at some point so he is already a racist.  You are a fabulist. I never said the crown jewels of our economy would go to the inner city.  The gummint can't even do that.  They'll go to India and China when the taxes are raised to pay for the bums, that's right, I said BUMS, in the ghettos.  Why do you think they're in the ghettos in the first place?  Because of their industriousness? Duh.

I don't think Obama will do much for military morale.  He'll probably cut their budget and send it to bums, though.  I still can't figure out if he wants us to invade Pakistan or not.  Perhaps you can explain just what he thinks we can do about bin Laden in some Paki cave.  Other than blow smoke up a bunch of retarded asses, his solution remains mysterious.  Like a lot of other shit.

This is bullshit and you know it.

If you go to either Obama's website or Mccain's, they both have the exact same Issues and Solutions listed.

It is ridiculously obvious to anyone that can read.  You just like to hang the "mysterious" tag on him to make it seem like his aims are somehow nefarious.

Why don't you link what Barrys' answer to getting bin Laden is?  Because I sure do recall the dope saying he would invade Pakistan.  I certainly don't recall McCain saying any such thing.  Link it so we can all have a good laugh.  Fathead Barry says he would have gotten him by now.  Yeah?  How?  Just what exactly would the empty suit have done and what doe he propose we should do now.  Keep in mind that Phred may be right and that bin Laden has done fuck all for 7 years and doesn't seem to be much of a player anymore.

Phred may be right, although the videos that surface every once in awhile would seem to prove otherwise.  Of course, claiming he his dead would be a convenient ploy for an administration that has spent tens of billions of dollars trying to find him and have precisely fuck all to show for it, no?
