Have you, or do you know anyone who has, participated in the JET programme?

That's the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme.

I was considering it a few years ago but decided not to do it, mainly because I was in a very heavy relationship and couldn't comprehend being parted from my love for a year. Application process starts soon, with deadlines in mid-to-late November.

If you know anyone who's done it, or you have done it, I'm really interested in having correspondence with people about their experiences in the program.

I was looking heavy into it  a few months ago. From the people I've met who have done the Japan English thing they say to stay away from the private english schools and stick to the government sponsored ones (JET). A few of the privates have gone bankrupt in the last little bit and people were left with out a place to live, return ticket and back pay.

I just got back from a short trip overthere and since you seem to be one of those folk that dig that diction I think you would have a blast over there hanging out with all the broken english.

is this where you go and teach english to students?

if so, i kicked it with a girl at allgood who went to a country in south america and did this for 6 months or so.  she said she loved it

Nope, that's kind of the beauty and terror of it all at once. They give you about $36000 bucks, a room, and a full set of teach-yourself-Japanese tapes and a tape player and headphones. Then they turn you loose. You team-teach with a Japanese teacher who speaks English, and you are essentially there to teach the kids how to converse, pronounce, et al.
