That was their very first album... it blew me away when I first heard it... when it was new.. the first time I heard of Opeth. From what I read they just sort of got together and improvised it, that album is more of a jam than any of their other albums.

Best metal album? Hmmm... In my opinion, I would have to say...I'm not sure.

I really like C.O.C.'s album Blind, but it's not my favorite. Death Angel's Act III is really great, too. Right now, my favorite metal album would probably have to be Slayer's South of Heaven.

Maiden - can't even pick a favourite album. if there were any i listened to the most though it would have to be either brave new world, piece of mind, and powerslave.. and 7th son. all really fucking excellent metal albums.

Metallica - MoP and AJFA, as usual

now for some obscure shit that i find is fucking excellent..

Rwake - Voices of Omens is a fucking shredder. incredibly doomy, but also brimming with diversity, harmonized guitars, melody, and that southern dirgey feeling. masterfully produced, too.

High on Fire - Death is this Communion rips the shit out of most current "groove" metal bands. hof are notoriously groovey without even trying, while also perfecting the art of metal. in case you didn't know, HoF is the new band of the ex-guitarist from Sleep. if you're familiar with Sleep, check these guys out.

Vulgar Display of Power

That album changed metal. There are alot of great cd's that I can never tire of (Arise, Alive or Just Breathing, LD-50, KORN, Satisfaction is the Death of Desire), but, none were as influential as VDoP.
