Small Town People = Bitter
    #8792237 - 08/18/08 08:33 PM (9 years, 10 months ago)

why does it seem like every time i meet small town people, they seem so bitter and mad about everything?  they seem to hate everything and always complaining about everything.

i know i read something about Obama saying that small town people are bitter about job loses so they turned to religion, do you think this is the reason they are so mad?

why would they be such haters? :macdre:

None of the small towns around my city seem to be bitter. They're usually full of older retiree's who moved out of the cities, or locals who managed to make a living within it. Usually good people, with an odd meth lab or two popping up

What have you got against them?

I live in a small town. Most people in small towns are religious freeks, and are alcoholics that beat their wives. The hate pot, because it makes people happy. They don't want to be happy, they want to be right that everyone is going to hell because of the changes in bigger cities. They are afraid of change comming to them.

I completely agree.
Rednecks. (at least in my state)
Afraid of change.
Love alcohol.
Hate pot.
Bitter.

They need some :rainbowcloud:

I wouldn't say the small towns I've been in are particularly bitter.  Sure, there's a very uppity & outspoken religious subculture that's always getting angry and yapping about something-er-other, but I just tend to tune them out.

In my town.
2500 people.
Alcohol, crack, bible thumpers, crack, neighborhood watch, but overall friendly people. There are the 10 people who want to change the town to be more fitting for them, but that's not happening, not when the cops are just as corrupt as anybody else here .
But as long as they got their crack, they're happy

Freebase cocaine is popular in smalltown Illinois?  I thought y'all had the same meth problem we've got in smalltown Oregon.

Well, in surrounding towns we got a meth problem.
A couple meth houses busted within a few years I think.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was meth all over the place.
Crackheads just happen to be open about what they do.
And maybe meth heads are different :P

Yep.  The western part though, I haven't hung out in any small towns east of the cascades.

Not other than stopping in Lebanon for gas.  But I assume they've got a similar vibe as Independence/Monmouth, which seemed reasonably friendly, if fairly conservative.  I got the same vibe from the wine country area a bit further north.  They're conservative, but I never really saw them as bitter.

Dunno, I'm from a small town and wouldn't consider myself bitter.

I can get uppity about expansion though, but I think that has more to do with living in Montana than living in a small town.

Oh i am bitter. Bitter for having to be in this town. Im married to someone who will not leave, and it's driving me insaine. I was a good boy, i got married, had kids, am good to my family, but i am not allowed to want to pick up and leave the area. I want change, but im tied down here by my family and this damn house i bought. My wife won't budge a inch, so i try to make the best of it. I keep telling myself that as soon as the kids are out of the house, im getting the fuck outta here. Thats 18 years away. I don't want to wait 18 years to be in a better place, but i guess i have no choice. I love my family and i am making every sacrafice a guy can give, but i never seem to get a break myself. I guess thats called growing up?

As a generalization, I don't know . . . but I have seen many a small town where poverty or at least lack of opportunity seems to lead to a feeling of being left behind and generally disenfranchised. These observations have come mostly from the rural Southeast but I imagine a similar story to be told elsewhere. The young and bright leave for college and then cities, never to return . . . those that remain work shit jobs for shit pay, because the factories closed and Wal-Mart destroyed the core of the town. No wonder they are bitter.
