They cover the grounds in hundreds at certain times of the year... I used to find them all the time.



They jump and look kinda like crickets, until you look down and realize it's a toad.


Anyway, tyrannicalrex, I'm guessing you live somewhere in the southeast, yes?

That's a typical Gray Treefrog. I find them all the time in GA.

SE Oklahoma,my friend told me they are chameleon frogs,he claims to have seen one change color to brown.I have to catch one and see.This one is near a gourd vine,it is almost the color of the light green gourd on the vine.

I've seen them gray, brown, and greenish.

Don't lick it. Notice how the hind legs have bright yellow on the insides when they extend them? They're toxic.

Yes I know,thank you though.Not foolish here,I like to research in detail ANYTHING before I try it.I just thought this little frog was interesting,it was out of the water in this heat! He must have been cool in the shade of the vine.

Treefrogs really only go to water to breed. Most of the time they are found... in trees :smirk:

really? I need to research more, I always thought frogs needed water, not only to breed, but to live so they dont dry out

Do you have a source for their toxicity?  I've caught lots of them with my dad who is a PhD biologist (he usually tells me every little detail about the critters we find), but never any mention of Grey Tree Frogs being toxic.  I just did a little googleing and didn't see anything about it.

that is a trip. I was/am always fascinated about little "higher-order" animals. For instance, a hummingbird is so little, yet as many of the same bodily organs we have - just in a perfect little package.

I am almost as fascinated by small animals as I am by eagles and other large birds.

Well, it can usually be assumed that bight colors on amphibians are linked to some kind of toxin.

From what I found, some populations of Hyla chrysoscelis contain a toxin, some don't :shrug:

I think that's about as big as they get, worlds smallest chameleon. Not my pic though.
