Straight whiskey or vodka. Followed by food and lots of water. Avoid mixing drinks, eat some food and drink water = no hangover.

Drinking Gatorade with alcohol has been proven to make the alcohol get to your bloodstream ALOT faster. As for helping on preventing hangover, I don't see why it wouldn't.

I am about to go to bed, so I am no tgoing to look it up atm. It's true, though. Something in the Gatorade that helps to hydrate your body faster also works to get alcohol to your blood faster. GN

Gatorade does not have enough sugar in it to be mixed with vodka.  I made the mistake last weekend and threw up right at the front of the stage at wemf. Get some OJ or fruit punch.

I have my doubts man.

Part of the reason hangovers happen is because alcohol inhibits a hormone called anti-diuretic hormone. As you may or may not know, a diuretic is a chemical that causes you to get rid of water from your body via urine. With the urine goes metabolites and some vitamins/electrolytes. When sober and the body is functioning normally, anti-diuretic hormone is at normal levels and you only pee out excess water and nutrients when necessary. If you inhibit a hormone that inhibits pissing out all your water, the net result is your kidneys work overtime and remove a lot more waste/wate than they're supposed to. That means you piss out everything your kidneys filter out.

That's part of the reason you get hungover.

So even if you are drinking Gatorade + vodka, the electrolytes you actually absorb and keep in your system ends up being fairly negligible.

The best way, in theory, to prevent a hangover, is to drink high quality clear liquors and drink lots of water/electrolytes while the alcohol is wearing off. If you drink water while still drunk, you'll just piss it out.

Dark liquors and low quality liquors contain chemicals called congeners as a  result of the way the liquor was aged (in wooden barrels, in the case dark liquors) or the shitty distillation process of cheap liquors. Guess what? Congeners contribute to hangovers too.

Lastly, acetylaldehyde is a metabolite of alcohol. Usually it's converted to other less toxic chemicals. But if you drink a lot, sometimes not all of it is converted to less toxic chemicals. Accumulation of acetaldehyde will really give you a horrible hangover.


... There you have it, the science behind a hangover.

Ya, I had some really dark rum and it was horrible. NEVER AGAIN! I think since I'm drinking vodka the effect will be negligible in comparison though. Usually if I drink water early in the morning I'm pretty fine.

I think that it is more than theory... at least for me... high quality (slowly fermented) alcohol and a couple glasses of water before calling it a night are the key.

Mmmm... Dark Cruzan Rum is good and cheap.  Mount Gay Rum is also good.

yeah i was okay, i drank orange juice and water all night and woke up refreshed.  no negative after effects even though i drank almost half a gallon.
