i drank a shot of absinthe

it tasted like black liquorish. i ordered a shot of it at a bar for 7 bucks. i don't think it had worm wood in it.
i had drank like 3 pacificos, 3 32oz coronas and some shot of i don't know what, then i asked if they had absinthe. i was cool till we went to this tittie bar and all the lights were hitting me, so i went out to some designated spot and yacked.

does all absinthe taste like liquorish?

That is the taste of absinthe, its not very good. But, it is very strong.

Pretty much. That and bitter. The bought stuff here in the US contains southern wormwood instead of the traditional wormwood so there is very little if any thujone. I've made high thujone content absinthe from scratch in the past. I have drank it many times and the only thing I ever got from it was DRUNK.

It's a good tasting drink imo and a fun little ritual with the sugar cube, spoon and all but don't expect to get anything out of it aside from being drunk.

great, if anything i should put suger cubes laced with my absinthe then maybe ill see what im looking for.

Yeah, I don't really like the taste of absinthe.  Methinks it's just the rarity and mythos of the drink that gives it its popularity.  Although, when I was in Hungary I got to witness one of the best alcohol rituals that I've seen to date: the waiter served up a glass of absinthe, lit the surface on fire, capped it off with another glass, and then bid me to inhale the fuming alcoholic vapors with a straw before downing the glass.

Quality stuff.

If you want to experiment with the effects of thujone here is what I recommend.

Have a couple of beers until your just past tipsy.
Roll up a 2 gram spliff of artemisia absinthium dry material  . Smoke this over 30 mins or so.

Effects come up about 15-20 mins after smoking is finished, very synergistic with alcohol.

quite euphoric, dreamy. enhanced color and music perception,
With a nice afterglow the next day:thumbup:

No no no!

What you had probably was  :scat:Czech Absinth:scat: which is a vile concoction that has nothing to do with real Absinthe.

The correct way to prepare Czech Absinth is to take a shotglass of it, put a sugar cube in, light it on fire and then hurl it at the bartender shouting "RUBBISH!"
Seriously, don't do that :wink:

True Absinthe tastes first and foremost like Anise. If it doesn't taste like anise, its not absinthe.

Bars and liquor stores typically only have the undrinkable stuff.

The fact that you were given a shotglass shows your local bar knows dick about the stuff.

hahaha very correct

it was a rock glass but i was sure i wasnt getting the real shit but i had been wanting to try what ever i could get i just didnt wanna buy a $60 bottle of bullshit. so i asked the bar if they had absinthe and they said yeah so i got a hit of it for 7 bucks.
