Microscopy Stain Kits??

I am looking for a stain kit so as I don't have to go out and buy from 4 different places 5 different things. I have looked around the webernets and I can't find any definitive kits for it. The closest thing I have found was on ebay and it said it was a mushroom "spore" and bacterial stain kit. Which would kinda work....but from everything I have read....only 1 of the chemicals was even mentioned online or in any of the microscopy book for mushrooms that I have.  The Melzer's stain is pretty much unattainable. I talked to the lab god where I work  (a hospital) and he said that they don't order it as they don't require its services there. So an order for it isn't that easy. He is really good friends with 1 of the many docs there.....so it isn't really that out of the question. It just might take a carton or two of cigarettes for the lab god to wave his almighty hand.


I am hoping he can score at least a script for the chloral hydrate.


I have purchased the KOH and I am hoping it gets sent. They say they might harass me about my school or whatever. Which I am not a member of. But doesn't mean I can't bend the truth into me taking some lab classes at college.

I may shop around and just give up on the whole hunt and just buy everything separate until I have assembled my uber shroomer kit. 


Maybe Shroomry should make and sell their own kits. Hell I would buy it.




Does anyone know of any sites that sell kits that are already assembled with all of the stuff already together that I may have overlooked?

So I guess there isn't really a kit that anyone knows of. Damn. That was what I was afraid of.


The lab god told me that the stains they use are for gram pos/neg identification. And that they won't work on mushroom spores and the like since mushy spores have 2 really thick membranes to protect the "seed" inside so that it can withstand really harsh conditions for long periods of time and still be viable. He said that iodine with other stains is good as it for some reason can help carry stain inside the membranes.

Yeah I have all kinds of stains at my work but I've never heard of Melzer's. Seems like you might be out of luck there.

So I guess there are no sure fire quick kits anywhere that are designed for the budding mycologist?  That is what I was afraid of. RATS.


I guess I will have to assemble my kit.
