recent NE Ohio finds

just wanted to post these pics for other ohio hunters and anyone else that wants to see...all found within the past week,not sure what most are but ive been researching little by little...mainly just wanted to share what ive found but if youd like to suggest possible I.Ds feel free,id appreciate the help.these are subbs from my vegetable garden,tons of em'...gotta love it..

is this cap blueing,or is it just me??? 

some others found in horse pasture..tried to get them I.D  on here yesterday but still dont know what they are  

well,that about it i guess..not all i found but most...i got about a dry 1/4 of subbs to try this weekend..perfect timing for the 4th..thanks for checkin my pics out

Sweet, my friend just recently moved to NE Ohio.  I thought there weren't any actives in that area?

Active Panaeolus subbalteatus and Gymnopilus grows in all 50 states.

Ohio also has a good amount of Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata.

well,i know there are supposed to be about 6-7 active species in ohio according to this site and one is VERY common (panaeolus subbalteatus)...ive been finding those right in my own back yard in my garden(its the top picture up there)..i havent had any luck finding other active species but i also probably wouldnt recognize one if i was holding it in my hand...all i know is cubensis from growing them and those subbs i mentioned before..

You have some cool mushrooms there, I wish the pics were clearer.  If possible use a camera where you can turn on macro mode when taking closeup pics of mushrooms.

I see some Amanita vaginata and Panaeolus antillarum. 

Some more pics of those purple ones would be awesome.

And the one with the bluing cap...

What is the spore print color on that and what habitat was it found in?

Are those clusters at the bottom subbs or something else?

ya,ive been having probs with my cam,ill check if its got macro mode like u suggested..i do have more pics of the purple ones ill post in a minute...as for the bluing one,being the noob that i am i didnt document it properly and due to all the shrooms ive found lately i dont remember where i found it..im still thinking though...the clusters on the bottom r the ones u were trying to help me with yesterday but we couldnt figure it out..i dont think theyre subbs because the stem was scaly and although i couldnt get a good print it looked brown to me,not black like all my other subbs..thanks alan,ill try to get more pics up

Most digital cameras have macro mode.  It is usually the little flower icon.

ya,u could be right about pholiota..thats the only thing ive seen that even remotely looks like them..http://www.mushroomexpert.com/pholiota_alnicola.html
they look like these only darker,more brown...the only thing that dont make sence is i found them in a horse pasture...i guess there could have been some rotten wood though..u never know...still waiting on pics to upload..sorry..

heres more pics of the purple ones..they were growing on what seemed to be the root system of a maple tree and there were about 30 of them in a 25 sq. ft area..they were kinda scaly and a little fuzzy with thin,closely packed gills that  were really tiny....

heres my garden subbs just for the hell of it...

sorry,got a little carried away..hehe!

Inocybes are interesting little mushrooms. always in weird colors and places. Ive read that most have not had any microscopy work except a few species.

By the way, these are featured in Bessette's Mushrooms of Northeastern North America which has hundreds of species.  It contains 6 Inocybe sp.  This one is listed as uncommon.  Good eye, good find. :thumbup:

can i find that at a bookstore?? say...maybe,borders books?? do you recommend it? all i have is a peterson field guide of north america and i dont like it...especially for actives...

ya,it did take a good eye to see them most definitely,they blend in with thier surroundings quite well....found them at the base of a maple...in the root system.

The Shroomery has a link you can use.  I recommend it.  In it you will find many useful field guides, including Bessette's.  Some are better than others; Peterson's is better than nothing.

an inocybe tahquamenonensis?....doesnt look like it at all...i know that you ID'd it right cause all other pics ive seen are identical to mine...but this one is way different...did they make a mistake??
reason i ask is cause subbedhunter said they come in all diff. colors...they dont vary in characteristics to though do they??
