Dr. Gonz, it IS terribly hard to get up early before work. I know how good that extra half hour in bed feels, but ultimately, I know how much better I'd feel if I just dragged my ass out of bed and ran.

That's the point of this thread...let's do this!

I'm still shooting for Monday. Going to make myself do it, if it kills me.

I think how far you runs depends on lots of things.  How much time do you have?  Are you a beginning runner? Do you lift weights? Are you running for weight loss or cardio?  What are your goals?

Try 15 minutes to start.  If it's hard, do it for a week, if it's easy, bump it up.  Just lace them up and go.

My goal at first is just going to be getting out of bed and getting out the door. That will, by far, be the hardest part.

After I've done that, regardless of how long or far I run, I'm going to feel fantastic.

Have you scouted out the path you want to take, usr?

Well, not looking for the intention of running, but I just plan on running on the sidewalk where I rode my bike...before I busted the tire.

I'll probably just circle a few blocks until I figure out how far I can run in a certain amount of time. I've never ran outside, so that part will be new to me.

Planning on shooting for 15-20 minutes of running/walking. If I make it out the door and break a sweat, the day will be golden.

Oh man, I'm pumped. I want to go run right now, but I'm not, because I want to save this excitement and have it fuel me for Monday!

Why get so stressed out with running. Sleep late, get stoned and drink a few beers every morning. You'll live longer.

Everyone knows that stress is a killer...

What does stress have to do with running?

Hue, have you ever ran? By running, I mean persistent running, miles at a time?

It is an absolutely amazing stress reliever. I find that running not only makes me feel physically better, but makes me feel much better mentally as well. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and allows me to make that time "my" time. It doesn't belong to work, or my girlfriend. I don't have to devote it to my house, or anything else that needs to be done.

Not to mention I don't think me going into work stoned and drunk would make much of an impression on my boss.

You should run too!

"Hue, have you ever ran? By running, I mean persistent running, miles at a time?"

I'm joking. I run regularly. At 43 yo I can run a mile in under 8 min. Last summer I ran 5 miles every day, and one day I ran just over 9 miles. Lately I have been doing Tabata interval sprints to build speed. At this point a 5 to 10 mile run is very little trouble.

That's awesome.

Well, it's 9:43 or so now. I'm finishing some things around the house then going to try to get to bed a little early.

Got all my stuff ready by the door so I don't have to mess with doing it tomorrow.

Plan on getting up at 6:00 or 6:30, I haven't decided yet.

I'm going to do this...I'm looking forward to seeing all of you do it, too. I'll let you know how it goes!

Did everyone have a great run?  It threatened rain the whole time I was running but was sooo nice and cool.  The wildflowers are beautiful today.
