I've lived in 2 different squats in cali. One was a small abandoned apartment building off of Shattuck in Berkeley, the other was at Hellarity in Oakland/Berkeley. Squatting can be fun for sure, useful too. Don't know if I'll ever stay in a squat again, but it was awesome while I did.

Have you stayed in a squat @ OP?

Ahhhhh, the dumpster divin' days :grin: Hell I ate better back then than I do these days!

Edit: It can also be very sketchy in a lot of areas, some people are just fucking hostile or even outright scary. Most squatters or train hoppers I know carry weapons and aren't afraid to use em.

Nope never have I'm a work whore, thats why I'm asking but I kinda thought the Punk Houses would be more safe, and  working plumbing like were Leftover Crack stays and allows people to stay, play shows, they have half pipe too.

Yeah the well established ones are usually less sketchy than taking over your own squat. It can go both ways though, I met some crazy fuckers at Hellarity. One of them started smashing bottles on my bike and threatening to stab me because I looked at them wrong. There was a lot of disrespect there, but I also met a lot of kind folks!

People acting like that is fucked up everyone is supposed to be there for the same reasons. Those people are the ones who just want shit handed to them and to be somebody or something above the rest.  Squatting is form of work, it's just work to survive for yourself and helping others directly, not feed the greed of corporate conglomerates .
