i've seen store-bought strains 'eat' contams before. still not a good idea as the contams usually survive in the cake's interior. wild strains often exhibit an impressive vigor but usually are slow to grow under artificial conditions. just ask ryche, he's tamed a few wild strains. after several generations the wild strain will adapt and become more like the other strains in terms of performance. btw, i've seen that pink shit before but only in jars. never really considered it as one of the baddest contams, it never seems to grow fast or far.------------------ Visit http://www.drooldonkey.org Global Psychedelic Community, Forums & Chat, Teks & Tips.

Why should I bother sending it to anyone? If you want this strain, come to Central Florida, it's everywhere (literally). It's not exactly rare.Hippie3- Yeah, I noticed that they were rather slow growing, but I did another experiment to try to induce pinning. I kept the humidity rather low in the terrarium(I use perlite), when the cake quit flushing, I just misted the dripshield real good and the next day the pins came up. As for the contaminants- I cut two cakes in half to see if the contamination was inside, but the insides were clean.

Look, I'm just a newbie...but, I am a Junior bio-something major and just wanted to offer my $.02 on the natural process of things. In the wild, mushrooms have to fend for themselves and develop stronger means to fend off infection. When they are 'tamed', they don't really have much agrivation from competition and their population looses their vigor in that area -- it's microevolution per Hardy-Weinberger theorem. On the other hand, I think, when mushrooms are domesticated the grower might choose the fastest growing fruit of the fastest growing mycelium to take a print from...not the most stress resistant mushroom. It's all husbandry, and if a stress resistant strain was developed a newbie could grow shrooms with less risk of contamination even though it might take more time to grow a crop. It's just a thought. I know when I grew my first batch I couldn't wait long enough; so I just picked a lot of little fruits of my PFs...
