.flac files

Ok guys, what do you do with these?  iTunes won't play em, and they take up a shit ton of hard disk space.  Any recommendations on converter programs?  .mp3 format would be clutch.

dbpoweramp is considered the best.  And it is.  I use it all the time.

I dont know about dbpoweramp but, flac frontend is what I use and have used for years.I think it will only convert to wav tho, so you would need to convert it from wav to mp3. Maybe dbpoweramp does it all in one step.
Winamp will play the files if you get a plug in for them.

Pretty sure you can play them in Winamp.

There's no point in downloading them unless you have a killer sound system, as you wont hear the difference in quality otherwise.

A lot of classical and jazz albums are released mainly as flacs.  :smile:

I agree though.

And yeah, there's a flac plugin for winamp.

FLAC is great for arciving, so you can transcode into .wavs and encode with whatever .mp3 program you like. The program CD-tag will decode into .wav then you can use LAME to encode into .mp3.

Ok, so I've got dbpoweramp, but it just converts a whole folder full of songs into one file....any idea how to split them up?

You might want to try Flac Frontend, like I said earlier you will have to convert to wav with flac frontend then convert from there to mp3.
http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html
Just look over the settings before you use it, if you have it set wrong you will delete the original files as they decode.

It shouldn't.  It should take every file that in that folder and convert them to the new format within the same folder.  So when it's done, it should ahve both flacs and mp3s in the same folder, split and everything.

You're using the dbpoweramp music converter right?
