Are you creative?
    #8472886 -

When I was younger I used to enjoy writing short stories about mundane activities that I would put an interesting/funny spin on. I'm pretty bored so I'm sitting here jotting down a few ideas, but I'm not as imaginative as I once was. I've got that recent story of the isolated tribe in the Amazon fresh in my head; I think that would be a great premise for a story. Man finds himself stranded in an unknown location, stumbles on an ancient, untouched civilization and learns their way of life kind of thing. It's a bit of a cliche, but it works well in that it gives the writer a lot of room to critique our society through comparison, and it would be a lot of fun to envision a civilization that would work with all of your own values in place (and then imagine how that would actually play out, what kinds of problems they may run into, etc - that in itself may cause the writer to reconsider his own stance on society).

Anyways, there's one of my very rough premises. Care to share one or three of yours? I know the Shroomery is teeming with the abstract, the unusual, and the unexpected. Hit me!

but then he finds out that the tribes shaman killed his father 20 years earlier and, fuled by revenge, single handedly takes out the entire tribe, only to find that he killed the young Incan princess he had fallen in love with, as well as their unborn illegitimate baby. In a fit of passion he rips open her womb and uses his own heart to give the baby life.

Something i threw together inspired by this thread.

"The leader of an ancient race highly advanced in the metaphysical powers of the mind travels up the time line of his own mind, because he has mastered the universe that is inside his mind. He retrieves a memory he will make thousands of years into the future when man kind discovers an alien planet during deep space exploration on which they discover what is basically the 'matter code'. They have mastered the math behind the space of the universe we live in. The planet seems to have been abandoned for a long time. The same guy who is in charge of the ancient organization is the guy who in the future deals with the exploration of that planet.

So as soon as the memory from the future getts linked with the leader who exists in ancient times thousands of years ago, that memory travels in order of a time line to present time(before it was ever created in the future). The ancient civilization uses the information of the 'matter code' and certain other calculations based on magic and mystical powers which aren't necessarily explained, to come up with the date for the end of time - which they record in their records, and which later gets discovered by present-day archaeologists.

The ancient leader in present-day is a brilliant scientist who 'remembers' the essence of the 'matter code' after having a near-death experience. The organization if works with starts working on the first time machine.

The planet is actually ours, but vastly different because it is a world created to be the ideal land. In the future following a number of world wars, man kind is conquered and united by a single world power that pushes to unite humanity forever in peace by creating a virtualization of the entire planetary population. Everyone is subjected to a matrix-like state which is virtulized dynamically based on the equation of the total sum of the ideal reality from the ideas of paradise of every citizen. This global virtualization is driven by an advanced electromagnetic construct that spills over in its very technology into space and time around it, becoming part of the universe, and technically a separate artificial dimention. It is in this world that mankind discovers the 'matter code' based on the parallels of the virtual world dimension and its connection to the universe at large, however mankind managed to destroy itself even there after a while.

Once the time machine of present-day is complete, it launches its first mission into the future, which happens to go past the existence and demise of the parallel virtulized dimension. What they don't realize is the future they end up in is the virtualized parallel universe which features the extinct human race. Once the time portal opens and the humans cross over, the discrepancy in the universal constants of the matter code (of the extinct future becoming the past of the present once the crossover was made) causes a universal tear and a black hole of enormous proportions swallows up the entirely of space and time. Matching the time the ancients 'predicted' the end of the world would happen.

In the final moments, we see a light emerging in a rebound effect, and new big bang taking place."

Science fiction much ;p

I've never been creative, it sucks.

"If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise." - Aldous Huxley

 I think I understand. Great story, though it was too imaginative at times for me to absorb. :blazed:  It sounds like a really deep storyline affecting events on a very large scale... I wish there was a word to describe that type of adventure... :ohwell:

Yeah, it does. Without a creative mind, you're forced to live in someone else's creativity. Sometimes I tire of it.  :waits:

I'm creative in Odd ways. I can't draw at all...seriously, i've Done one remotely successful 3d drawing in my life, and it was purely by chance.

On the other hand, Give me a 1950 such and such and I'll make some crazy thing. With metal, and wood, I can make all kinds of nutty, crazy, or elegant things. My mind can sore with these mediums far more than my hands can keep up.

I really, really love metal art, and hate myself That I haven't really made anything cool in forever.

I can't draw anything out, and really rarely see what i'm Going to do in my head> Millions of things sore through my mind, and my hands just take hints and cues from those unbenounced to me. It just happens.

That was a terrible answer.

So I rode down to the waterfront to smoke, and I was thinking about perspective and proportions. I was thinking about quantum mechanics (or the little bits I know about QM), and how the bits of pieces of our reality seem to extend to such a microscopic level that we will probably never see and fully understand them. Or at least that's a good background for my story. Then I looked at the stars and thought about how infinitely small our planet is in the grand scheme of the known universe, and how unfathomably large that scale extends, just like our view down. At this point I began to think about life. Not life, as in the life that we live as humans, but life as the force that originated from we're-not-sure-yet and managed to spread across almost the entire planet and evolve to survive in limitless environments and endless combinations of elements. So I thought it would be cool to write a story as if those elements, or atoms, or whatever part would be most scientifically plausible, were personalities themselves - part of a special club that we call 'life'. Maybe all of the other elements or atoms would be jealous as they swirled around forever in the chaos of their unrestricted existence in space, unable to gain any control over this reality. So these elements or atoms spend their entire existence mixing with other elements or atoms and judging whether they 'hit it off' and make a little element or atom. They go to mix parties and mix bars and mix it up for billions of years, in every corner of the known universe. I could toy with the idea of scale and mention that the element or atom scientists weren't sure yet what they were composed of, but they suspected that their substance consisted of tiny building blocks of energy, all in neat little squares. They called it block theory. Maybe at the end I could somehow zoom out the perspective of the story to our scale, then push further out, billions of times outwards into another atom, of another universal scale, which extends into another, and another, and never ends (which is no more impossible to comprehend with our minds than the well accepted scope of this universal scale).

So anyways...  :blah::tongue:

I see. That is some precision scribbling. Is that from Waking Life? The shading looks very similar and it's sort of unique.

No, I think I get it. Your creativity flows through metal and wood work. That would be cool to see. I like abstract art because of the variety, more so than any portrait or sculpture. You can define its message yourself I guess.

ugh, I totally understand.

I'm going to an art college right now and I'm constantly forced to "be creative", especially outside of my medium, photography.

I'm absolutely terrible at drawing, but I have to take classes in it.
