Weird. The obvious sort-of-lookalike with that spore print would be Psathyrella candolleana, but they are generally a big larger (and don't look that much like it, in my opinion). Maybe it's just an unusual specimen of Panaeolina foenisecii? If not, I would probably guess some odd Psathyrella.

If it was purple black it could be one of the other active panaeolus genus...maybe castaneifolius, but I assume you took a sporeprint Mr Mushrooms...??? right hehe.
So check it out under the microscope...and let's see if we can't ID this oddity.
Cheers...

RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together.

hey dudes,
toxice man seems educated on this situatiion.
Agaracis campestis and a good mushrooom.
Down here in florida they grow just about everywhrere, just as morgans green gilled lepiota poison mushroom appears.
Psychoative mushroom can be the easiest to identify.

where i live, there is what i have identified to be most likely a varient of Ps. montana that live in close proximity to Pan foes. they are not active, but usually have darker caps, and adults flatten out and look like wavey caped active species.
having not collected a lot of liberty caps, finding only foes, i am told that there are many variations in the taxonomic features of liberty caps. they are active but do not stain blue.

Other than the spelling errors and maybe some info needs to be updated, it is pretty good for getting to know your N Eastern panns...would have never gone looking on new lawns without it....cheers Mitchnast.

Another great site with loads of pictures is:
http://www.pfc.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/cgi-bin/matchmaker/matchmaker.asp
It says that it is for the west coast...but many of these are found out east as well.
Cheers
