Friends getting into heroin

It isn't a lot of my friends, three, but one of them I know will get addicted. I've known her for simply too long to even try to think she will be responsible with it and moderate over long periods of time.

For the time being she is an outpatient at rehab, not for heroin but for drugs in general, and I know whenever she gets out nothing will have changed. She has told me that she needs not to stop, but to WANT to stop.

Anyone with experience with this kind of stuff want to advise me as to what to do? She is not addicted yet, but I know that she will be if she doesn't get help.

There is nothing you can do, I'm not being callous but you can't control what someone else does.

I've had friends go down the "hard drug" road and you can't stop them, and nobody could stop me when I went my trip into hell.

People do what they want to do:shrug:

I have talked to her about everything, yes.

I told her that I don't trust her not to do it again, and she agreed that she probably will in the near future. She said she wouldn't do it for a while, and when I asked her what a while was she said "about a week or two". So the outlook is pretty bad.

Sorry man but their is nothing you can do...having watched multiple friends of mine take that walk despite all efforts from people who loved them, I can say this with confidence.

I also went down that road myself while everyone around me tried to stop me.

What I would advise is to stick by her and don't be that broken record asshole but just tell her you care about her and she's worth more than that. Not everyday but once in awhile and try to just stay positive, friendly, and maintain a healthy relationship with her that encourages other activities. Also try to set her up with a nice guy who doesn't get down like that. Relationships tend to be solid motivation for most people.

What you definitely don't want to do is make statements like if you get into this I'm not going to want to be around you, or i'll stop talking to you, blah blah etc....even if it kills you to see her nodding in and out like a junkie in the corner, keep chilling with her and hug her tell her u care and yada yada. probably won't do shit but it's about all you can do.

or just peace out the friendship if it's not worth all that to you.

I do agree, but here is where it sucks. I saw a change in her at the beginning of the year, and her life started to revolve around drugs. I have predicted every move she has made so far this year, and the only outcome at the end of the year that I can see is her ODing on something. She already got severe alcohol poisoning earlier this year and her heart stopped beating. I can only imagine what she would do with something that is measured in milligrams. She has no idea what she is doing, never has,has never wanted to, and has the judgement of a 4 year old.

Sounds like she's screwed then. Sorry to say but like other people have already stated if she's gonna do heroin, she's flat out just going to do it. Just be supportive I guess.

I didn't think of this before but if you reside near her, you should get some opiate-agonist and learn what to do in case she OD's, you could seriously end up saving her life.

It's your call whether to hang with her when she does that stuff, but if you do try to get some of that stuff and know how to use it.

Also, after you revive her before you call 911 make sure the house is clean.

Depends on where you are but you could ask the nearest methadone clinic I bet they'll know how to hook you up with naloxone.

Make sure you find out how to use it the right way beforehand.

What ever you do don't abandon her. Stick with her. A few of my friends straight up stopped hanging out with me cause I got into opiates. That makes things a lot worse, and only makes the person want to do more opiates.

Stay friends with her no matter what.

I tried helping someone with their heroin problem once and they ended up hating me for it. Either way, you lose a friend. What a fucked up drug.
