The Youtube Era [no video inside]
    #8335168 -

Damn you Youtube, for providing unlimited quantities of videos for people to mindlessly watch while we waste away in front of the computer.  Usually, I wouldn't mind such a thing, but now that it has directly affected my life - and thus cannot be ignored, it has become annoying.

It used to be that I'd come to The Pub, open a thread that caught my eye, read the original post, decide whether or not to respond/read on....but now nearly every thread's original post contains a video.

No - i don't want to watch a video, I've wasted hours of my life, 2:30 at a time on videos that were recommended to me by fellow forumgoers, just passing 'em on.

Where have the days gone when I could open a thread and actually read a post with material in it - without being diverted to some ameture clip linked from another site.  I've been forced (though it's not a bad thing) to move on to other subforums in search of actual posts to read.

Youtube is dumbing us down - we aren't even required to type up posts anymore, just embedd a video and wait for responses.

Come back, old days - for I don't like change :frown:

this is the only place I watch youtube videos.

most videos are only a couple minutes long, so if you were spending two and a half hours watching vids, I think it was your fault.

some videos are incredibly stupid/boring, but you have to take the good with the bad in this case. I apologize for the cliché.

the youtube phenomenon could be a futuristic way for people to share ideas. Maybe videos are an easier and more efficient form of communication than written words. This could all be a precursor to the development of a universal consciousness

I have to agree, though there are still some good wholesome posts out there, there are a lot of video posts.

I do enjoy the non-video, but I don't really have much of a problem with the video ones. There are just a lot of them.

Egh.. what's wrong with videos? When it comes to describing a story or something you hear on the news I'd much rather watch a youtube video then read all about it here. As long as the vid provides good content and not some stupid shit like that 420 video, then it's all good.

I definitely have watched 40 min videos here too. I don't complain though, I have learned SO MUCH from this forum. Not all drug related either. You guys have the most interesting things to say.

I was thinking the same thing today when I wasted most of the day watching youtube videos. I like the new south park episode making fun of them that shit was great.

haha, that's funny.

i didn't know what the video contained - as I only see a white screen with a cursive "f" in the middle of it until i click on the link for the video to play.

so - in retrospect - good joke, I wish i would've been able to experience it as it was meant to be.

Also - to he who said it was the next step in human communication - I would agree, except that people are posting other individual's ideas/videos, and not their own. Until everyone has a webcam, and we all make videos instead of typing up posts such as this - it's not a step in the direction you speak of.

It's not Youtube, but the complete lack of personal responsibility that is the problem with the world today.

Watching too many videos? Fucking stop.

My only pet peeve about Youtube is that it seems to be the sole weapon in the arsenal of many people that argue politics.

I get pretty tired of people in the Politics Forum making wild claims and then posting a Youtube video as "proof".

Make your own fucking argument, for Christ's sake.

I never watch them. When threads have them I avoid the thread, or just post without watching the video.

I hardly think posting a video of a horrible Indian rip-off of Thriller is a threat to human society.

I gotta disagree, I believe that youtube videos can actually be excellent topic starters! You can cram so many ideas in couple minutes of a video!

"We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here." - Richard Dawkins

I've really enjoyed some of the YouTube videos I've seen posted here, and I'll quite often post a video if I think of something related to the threads topic, but I do agree that there are too many threads started with just a subject and a youtube video. A lot of the videos that get their own threads aren't even that cool.
