A friend loaned this to me. I am only on chapter 7. Has anyone read this and thought it worthwhile? It is getting better now. The first few chapters wern't perking my interest, jumpy beginning from background info to character profiles etc. My friend also said McKenna in conjunction with his brother wrote the mushroom growing book 'Psilocybin : Magic Mushroom Grower's Guide' by O. T. Oss, O. N. Oeric is this true or is he filling me with BS?

First, yes its true, Dennis and Terence wrote that book in 1976.
True hallucinations is a good read IMO, yes its slow to start, and it does have some whacky ideas, but overall theres a lot of good information in there if your interested in mushrooms, MAO inhibitors, UFO's, the Amazon and shamanisn.
Take care

The Amazon is what I am most interested in. I would LOVE to wonder around a primative area to explore, not just searching for drugs, but just loveing being alive

Jeremy Bigwood and Jonathan Ott also contributed greatly with the McKennas on that book as was Terences wife Kat. It was what you call academic paranoia. mj

I knew Kat had done the illustration, but didn't know about the other two, learn something new everyday MJ you are a wealth of information
>It was what you call academic paranoia.
I can understand that!
Good luck

Very good book! Give it a chance, it's bizarre. And true. Some very freaky things about what the mind can do.

Any chance you are done with it and would like to trade for any of these?

I'd rather not get rid of my copy, but I just checked ebay and Amazon and it can be had for $6-$7
