Huautla Monotub Updated 14-June-08 New pics 17-JUN-08

Knocked 'em up about 4 or so days ago. Will keep you all updated. Going to spawn to hpoo. Colonizing is coming along pretty good. Most of the jars are PF Redspore. I have some PF cake jars that are knocked up with Huautla. Will post up pics of those when I start to see signs.


Spawned 3 Qt's WBS to 10 pounds of hpoo. Today I put my casing layer on. I used 50% Verm 50% Peat Moss.

Here are some updated pics.



I read quite a few tek's. I will do some proper thanks after I research who they were by.

Hope I get some good flushes. At least one. This is my first time using bulk substrates. Only grew cakes once.

I looked at my casing and it looks like there could possibly be cobweb.

Am I correct when understanding that with a monotub your supposed to set it and forget it? Meaning I don't have to manually do FAE?

Any help is appreciated.

I don't think it's cobweb it looks like normal mycilial growth. Usually cobweb looks kinda thin and almost hairlike in composition though I've never had it I've only seen it in pictures.

Well when looking closely I see some grey hair looking growth. It could also be the very tip of the mycelium growing under the casing layer. I hope that's all it is.

All the white spots look good. I'm hoping to see the initial pinset very soon.

you should have a fan in the room, not directly on the monotub as it can dry it out, but to increase airflow. my friend is using a fan that moves back and forth (the actual term for this escapes me right now) and has it set so the air almost blows onto the tub. so far their have been no humidity issues.

try misting with a bit of peroxide to see if the alleged cobweb "melts".

actually, i just noticed that was from a few days ago. while i have no experience with cobweb, i do understand that it spreads very fast. if you suspected a couple of spots earlier this week it would most likely have overtaken your entire casing layer by now.  if it is cobweb mold, though, try the peroxide.

I don't think it's cobweb now. It just looks like the humidity was so high that the little tiny hairs in the hpoo look like they were misted.

I'm sure you can see it in the pics.

The term your searching for is osculating and dont spray your healthy mycelium with peroxide unless you want to slow its growth and damage it. Its 100% NOT cobweb

Notice the mushrooms only came out of where the mycelium was poking through? If you let the mycelium break through the caseing evenly you will have a "sea of shrooms" as they call it. That small area that DID break through should have been lightly patched so all the rest could catch up.

Just a little tip for you :thumbup:
Very nice looking mushrooms BTW.
