Hello, I am growing equador mushrooms in a Philosopher bag (from sporeworks.com). It's been in my closet for maybe 1 1/2 months in the dark with no light and I just checked it and theirs little mushrooms growing from the side (1 side) and I was wondering, is it ok if I take the bag out of the closet and let it have light or just leave it in the dark and never let it see light for a bit?

Ok, well I will take them out of the closet now and give them about 1 hour in the light, but currently the weather is Temp: 66F - Humidity: 88% - Wind: 5mph (West) - Conditions: Overcast so I will put them near a window and add some light..and just wondering can I use a grow bulb as well (60WATT)?

Just a question, why are you growing Equadors in a Philosophers bag? Isnt the Philosophers bag made for Psilocybe mexicana and other sclerotia producing species?
Anyways i would give them some light, the mushrooms wont begin to grow withough light. Light initiates pinning, it makes mushrooms begin to grow. Give them some light, the amount of time they get light doesnt matter as long as the light isnt very bright.

I find they usually grow towards the light source..

Ok, well then I will get a overhang light then ;D and treat it as if it was like marijuana, it will grow towards the sky

They do indeed grow towards light, and if at all possible try to let them get natural sunlight, mabe through a partially open window blind or similiar. bluhoney

Don't expose them to direct sunlight for long periods of time. The bags are mini greenhouses and can heat up quickly!
