What kind of bugs are they exactly? If it happens to be slugs, which is pretty common, then you could dig a hole in the ground as big and as deep as a cup then fill the cup with beer. I don't think that it is absolutely necessary to bury the cup for it to be effective though. That is a really effective slug trap.. Sevendust would work but you don't really want that on your consumables. I would try and find the most non toxic solution to the problem that I could. Good luck!

i don't know what kind of bugs.
they also consume a lot of substrate when its outside.

maybe a perimiter of seven dust, not on top or really near my buddies , will keep em out.

i can tell they will perform well in my climate. the pins look close to dung /straw pins.

i'll figure out something cause outdoors would be so cool.

i dont know the exact name of the product, but theres a cover lid that you can put over fruit to keep bugs off. if you wanted you could make your own cover with coat hangers and women's leg nylons. *work great*
it lets the shrooms still get air and light, but keeps unwanted pest out, except for the nieghbours' cats. but you cant win em all, ha
hope this helps

The same thing has been happening to my outdoor guys. Twice now I have gotten some nice looking pins, so I get all happy .
Then I check them the next morning and I find that some unknown (small) critter has been helping himself to the fruits of my labor. They look sort of half-assed gnawed, usually from the top half. Never much destruction, but usually enouigh to make them abort. I also notice this seems worse the morning after it rains...could be coincidence(?). The only bugs I really see around are ants, but I'm not sure if they are the culprits or not. Honestly, I never see them actually crawling ON the shrooms. I have sprinkled cayenne, as well as black pepper all around the area but these bastards are still managing to get through and they are really pissing me off.
