I live in illinois, and recently the weather has been very favorable for mushrooms to grow. It has rained good ammounts this past week, and the temperatures are staying pretty low compared to most summers. I found several LBM's in my back yard, but I was wondering if any psychoactive species might grow around here? I noticed several other threads like this one (asking about illinois mushrooms) and no one replied...but I would appreciate ANY info ANYONE has about mushrooms in ILLINOIS. to be more specific, I live in east central Illinois.

is panaeolus subbalteatus the only one I should be looking for around here? I'm probably gonna go look tomorrow because there has been lots of rain this morning and yesterday...

I live out of chicago on a farm and have identified a few panaleus in unfertilized lawn and also in the ol' horse pasture. The only thing that works around here is the liberty cap. But really, if your serius about eating what you pic, get a real good book. stamets has the best I've seen "Psilocybin Mushrooms of the world". This book helped me figure out the panaeleus which is around. The good thing is that those are indicator species and you may be close! Your on the right track and if you look persistently you'll find em.

Libetrty caps may not grow in Illinois but they are in Canda as far north as Nova Scotia and have been collected in NEw York State.

Pluetues salicinus is found in Illinois and is active. IT has pinkl gills and gets exterememly blue when handled.
