Olympics
    #8270731 -

ok, i know tibet deserves independence from china, and this issue is really important and should not go overlooked, but to protest and humiliate the chinese people's first olympic games is the completely wrong thing to do!

the majority of the chinese people are collectively simple minded, and one thing for sure is that the are all very honored to have the games in china. they have been preparing nonstop since they first knew they would have the chance. what a great sense of unknown national pride that must be for such a hardworking class of people.

now they are beginning to see the world turn against them. these people arent in control of tibet. the chinese governing body is. but it is the citizens of china that receive the hatred more than anyone. this will surely have the opposite effect for tibet, and many foreign relations as well.

think of it this way, if the entire world embraced china's pride and sense of belonging, and showed them we are all brothers and sisters on this earth, and THEN posted the issue of tibet when it was appropriate (after the olympics), think of how much smoother things would run and how they would be much more cooperative.

but no. the entire world disgraces the chinese and tries to prevent the flame from going to china.

wake up , time to think about what the olympics really mean to some people.

What?  Why would they ?  Do you think they really like being treated the way they are ?

What I think sucks in all this is that the people who get the honor to carry the torch get attacked by angry protesters. It's probably the highlight of their life to make that 10 km dash

Don't forget you don't get the whole Tibet story , just the good part.

Simple minded people are used as sheep by their governments, and what better way to wake up such sheep than to protest their governments. The Olympics being held in China is a perfect opportunity to show moral support for the sheep of China against their fascist/communist government.

P.S.- China shouldn't have gotten the Olympics to host anyway, I mean how is it justifiable to give such a glorious event to such a terrible governed nation?

I don't understand why you guys are actually calling out Chinese people as simple minded and sheepish. I mean... didn't America RE-elect Bush? or Arnold.. because everyone knows a bodybuilder turned Hollywood star is THE person that knows how to run a state.

Well that's a noble cause that I support , it just seemed as if you were targeting China in particular.

Anyways , the installations look awesome. The blood of hundreds of Chinese workers was not spilled for nothing !

I hate the American mindset of all communist nations. When most Americans think communist they think Hitler or some shit. China had been around a lot longer than the US. As smart as asians are don't you think that if the 1.3 MILLION of them were REALLY unsatisfied with their government after all these years they wouldn't revolt and change that shit? I mean, they've only been this way for what, like 5000 years? How long has America been around again? Communism works for them, and it works for the U.S too in terms of economics.

And if you want to talk human rights, take a look at South America or Africa, or if you're familiar with the term the "Global South".

China has not been employing "communism" for 5000 years. And for the record, China's version of communism really isn't communism at all. It's so far from Marxist/Leninist teachings, its ridiculous.

However, I do agree that it should be left to the people to revolt against their repressors. I believe anti-Chinese protesters are mostly benevolent, and have their hearts in the right place.

I used the term Communism too loosely. And I'm not sure how long China has been communist, but I don't think they were ever democratic. My point was that I think it works for them.

Actually, I am really glad that all of this is happening.

This is Tibet's only chance at getting help from the world in their liberation from China. They are simple, humble people who are really in no position of power to do anything about their oppression.

What China has done to them is terrible. I think human rights are much more important than a bunch of games.

I believe they have been communist since about the end of World War II. Up until that point China had been under some form of undemocratic political structure whatever form that might have taken.

But, I agree with you: it works for them.
Wouldn't work for me, wouldn't work my fellow countrymen. But if they decide to change their ways someday, I'll support 'em!

I'm aware that there are human rights abuses going on around the world, even in the U.S. But this thread is about China, a nation that contributes enormously to the human rights abuses around the world. To add, put aside what they are doing in their own nation and think about how they are conducting themselves in Africa and other places around the world they are plumping resources from with slave labor pay.

The United States of America is an idea of freedom that most closely resembles self-governing, which is in my opinion normal in comparison to the restrictions and under-development caused by dictation. There are a substantial amount of Chinese who work very hard for revolutionary change against the current Chinese dictatorship...a lot of them are in exile because they would be imprisoned to say the least for any 'rebelliousness' within China. But your right, the majority of Chinese don't care too much and are content because they are born into a mis-information and dictating program, but again, those who are not content fear for speaking out within China. And let it be known the Americans were the first to break away from the Old World Order with their great revolution, something the Chinese never really experienced throughout their history... so that may be a legitimate reason why their people aren't to confident in a revolution for China...plus the U.S is in a major and extremely difficult battle now against the same Old World Order, so that doesn't give the Chinese much hope too.

It's not that it works for them it is just that they have never known anything different.

After 5000 years of having the ruling classes drum submission into their heads and culture it has become ingrained.

I'm not saying that our way is the good way and theirs is bad, but it is naive to think that all chinese agree with this system. A lot of them have no clue of what is going on.
