Some more Texas collections.....
    #8221769 - 03/31/08 09:10 PM (16 years, 19 days ago)

OK, this was done today...just a quick check of the field I have access (and permission) to use. It is a small collection, the fresh cubes weighed out to 25 grams, started drying a bit ago and will add them to the collection. I knew it was a bit early as we have not had enough rain, but shortly after this, it rained NICELY...so the next 2-4 days should provide some excellent results...anyway, here we go...

Habitat: Pasture woodlands, cows present, lots of cow poop to go around. Specimens collected were obtained from several week old cow poop presentations, as seen in photos.

Gills: Gill colors ranging from light cinnamon to dark brown.

Stem: Off white, mostly hollow cores.

Cap: More golden tan centers, fading to edge! The young specimens are beautiful golden brown like fresh bread

Spore print: dark brownish/purple

Bruising: Bruising, purplish/bluish evident on stems and edges of cap. The younger specimens showed much more bluing than the older ones.

Location: south texas pasturelands (lots of cows).

Loading up pics now....stay tuned...

What I have positively ID'ed as p. cubensis, and hoping you experts can chime in as well.

And some cool ones, I have no idea what these are (yet).

And one more pic for size comparisons....

Yeah I did toss them. They were pretty though. Thanks for the id on those suckers, I will research them a bit more to get familiar with them, I knew they were not active...

Yep, they're Panaeolus, in the sphinctrinus/campanulatus complex. Nice finds.

Noob here. Apologies all around.

P. sphinctrinus and P. campanulatus are completely nonactive?

I can't personally back this statement up yet, as I havn't tried eating copious amounts of them, but apparently some collections have been recorded to be mildly active.

Yeah I was wondering what in the world.... Still new here and learning the ropes.

Speaking of which, I am going to post in the trip section here in a bit....I sampled the above and I must say.....incredibly powerful.

Ah, the bioassay. It's so almost-latin.

Yo, rapture, which ones did you chomp? Or did you put that in the trip, er, essay? I'll go check.

This is a big house.

Just the cubes. The pans got tossed out with the dish water....

I did not get to post the essay....hehe...and won't get to till later tonight, but suffice to say, this was the STRONGEST 2.3g of dried cubes. Far more powerful than the 3g I have sampled before. I was floored by how strong it was:eek:, and I have a new respect for the fungi (and I am a long time psych user!). I had a good time but...more on that later. I am going hunting tonight.
