I think you meant 65 degrees, usually 72 is room temp.

No, he means 75 degrees so the A/C isn't kicking on constantly to keep the temperature down.

I'm sorry I don't intend to offend anyone here by this but fuck Earth Hour. These causes are the stupidest things ever created by completely unrealistic stupid fucking people and backed by shitty companies who want to "look like they care". And they never accomplish anything. All of these Earth Hours, Earth Fest, Earthapolizas, Earthorgys can suck by balls. I am convinced that these causes are created just to scam money and be good PR for companies with bad environmental reputations.

Brain, do you think that not buying gas for a day does any good?

It saves me money, so yes. Even if its only $20. If everyone else did the same thing, it might save the government money, so yes. I'm not say that it miraculously stops global warming or are countries oil addiction, but you can't say that me buying guess is BETTER than me not buy gas can you?

I'm far from miserable too.
Do you think that not buying gas for a day makes a difference?

If you really want to make a difference, then do something meaningful.
Buy those floresent light bulbs.
Sure they are expensive.
But once I got my whole house filled with them.....
I started seeing a savings of about $20-30 each month.

Set your thermostats to 75 degrees.

Put new seals around your doors.

Car pool.

I could make a LONG list of things that will actually help, rather than fooling myself into believing I've done some good by turning my lights off for an hour.
:whatever:

Oh and btw, I will be turning my lights off at around 10ish and they won't be back on till 5am.

See these are the kind of ideas that the creators of this "Earth Day" are hoping to encourage. If doing something like this can show that we can save millions of dollars (made up statistic, i have no idea if this is amount is possible) simply by conserving energy for one hour, imagine what else we can do if we all put our minds to it?

Even if everyone turning their lights off for one hour isn't going to do anything in the grand scheme things, it certainly isn't going to make things worse, and certainly will encourage some people to start energy conservation. So why the negativity?

People have been doing the things niteowl mentioned for years, including myself...

I don't need a "global-consciousness-for-one-hour movement" to get me to do it.

The whole idea seems like a cop out to me.

"Hey, if I can do this for an hour this one time, all those other times I don't recycle or carpool will be wiped away."

And I think mine and others expressing similar opinions are not being cynical, just realistic.

Well those are the kind of people who are responsible for the problem in the first place. The kind of people who buy "gas efficient" SUVs because it makes them feel better than driving an H2. To people who actually care like myself, i might actually go out and do something. For example, i still have a few light bulbs in my house that i haven't converted over to flourescents yet. I think i'll go do that tomorrow. Thank you, Earth Day, for encouraging me think about my planet.

All the lights are still off. Tried to keep the TV off but with 15 mins left to go he was totally jonesin for blues clues and had to be appeased

The only way you're gonna save on gas money is to stop driving
Not buying gas today only means, your gonna have to buy it tomorrow....unless you stop driving

Do the world a favor...disconnect the electricity from your house all together.

The earth will thank you for it.
