Stupid Preservation Idea

Okay I know this sounds stupid, but I just want to see if anyone thinks it's viable or wants to try it. Chop fresh mushrooms into pill size peices, then put them in an icetray, fill with water and let freeze, I'd imagine this would preserve the mushroom just fine, I don't have access to my freezer, so I can't try it, but if anyone wants to try it, or just plain laugh at me go ahead. It's a stupid idea, but hey for people who don't want to dry them, (not sure why you wouldn't want to dry them to preserve them...) it might be worth an experiment.

i think freezing fresh mushrooms is a bad idea. dry them first, but then really, whats the point of freezing them right?

Like I said, an alternative to drying, I wouldn't do it, but I would try it if I had the opportunity, just wanted to throw my epiphany out there.

I doubt it.. seeing as alot of people freeze dry them in airtight bags. People claim to store them with little to no loss of potency for years.

really? are they dried prior to freezing? my friend froze some fresh, and when they thawed all he got was mush....no pun intended..... he asked his chemistry teachor about feeezing organic matter(no mention of what was being frozen) and he said that the cold makes the cell walls rupture..... or somethin like that.....peace!

Yeah.. they have to be cracker dry. And not in just a ziplock bag. Theres a tek for it somewhere.. You use airtight containers and freon gas (computer duster/'compressed air cans'). It supposedly works very well.

Wow TM glad to see that I got a respone out of your other than search and Faq, but yes I already said it was a stupid idea, I realize cold will rupture the cell walls, but I don't really know about it's effects on Psilocybin (I have yet to have taken Chemistry) but I just wanted to throw my random thought out there. I do like the ideas of shroom pops, maybe if I have alot of extra dried shrooms I'll try that. Then I can be everyone's favorite icecream man. And actually I haven't been smoking anything, I think perhaps the rubbing alchohol has made me light headed. But I'll match you sometime TM.

First of all, as flip as I can be at times, I almost NEVER answer with a response like that. That's Vataloco's style, and Anno's, not mine.

Second, I said it was stupid because you'd be begging for a loss of potency doing that. Putiing crushed or ground or even broken up dried shrooms in water, the water would almost immediately turn blue and if not consumed very soon thereafter there would be a significant potency loss. Frozen or not.

Besides... How would you consume the ice cubes? You'd have to use a blender or make tea. I cant imagine chewing up a whole ice cube or two or three in order to trip. So, if you're gonna use a blender anyway, why not just put the dried shrooms in it?

Stupid idea... I totally agree with the thread title.

Wait wait people...how can you so easily dismiss this idea? Just because the cell walls may rupture, doesn't necessarily mean the psychedelic contents would be damaged. From a biochemical point of view, I can't think of a reason there would be any potency loss. Anyone care to support/refute this with some factual information rather than pure speculation?

When psyloc(yb)in is exposed to H2O it quickly breaks down and loses potency. Why else do you suppose it's neccessary to dry shrooms to preserve them?

Tripmeister, stop being so fucking arrogant. I have taken a lot of chemistry and I think it would probably work at least as well as drying with a lot less fuss. Psilocybin does NOT break down on contact with water. Get a clue before you claim to know everything.
