I had the pleasure of attempting to shroom hunt today. Unfortunately I turned up empty handed, but I am definately going back to try again another day. I have just a few minor questions to ask though, when hunting will the mushrooms be sprouted on top of the pile of cow dung, or do you have to flip it over and dig all through it to be able to find the shrooms? Also how long does the dung need to be sitting there before there is a chance of some shrooms sprouting in it?
Where I am there is a huge levee that has cows on it. They eat all day, as well as all night. I figure that this would be a good place to find some shrooms. I only tried once, so there will be many more attempts from me. Thanks for your time, and any answers you may have.
I believe the mushrooms sprout right from the top of the cow patties. The mycellium needs light in order for it to know when to produce mushrooms, so it would only make sense that they sprout from the top, where the light hits.
Good luck in your future hunts!
